can't find my ipod on itunes

I just bought an ipod 5th gen and my son hooked it up to his computer (a mac) to download some of my cds until I got my new computer (dell 610 notebook-it was free!!). When i tried download music off of the notebook, the IPod never was recognized. I tried and reinstalled the latest software but no ipod showed on my itunes.

Thanks for the quick reply and the thorough steps. I tried deselecting the power save and it had not shown up in itunes.I have to leave work now. If you have any other possible solutions, I am open. If it is easier to email, you can email me at my school account at steve.petersen@fcps.edu.

Do you have to register your ipod through each computer that you use?
