ibook G4 12" 1.2Ghz not starting up.

Hi,

I have been using my ibook G4 12" 1.2Ghz since 2005.

Recently it just won't start up. Whenever I press the power button the fan came on, the DVD drive (which has a DVD still inside might spin continuously), and the screen seem to have back light on but shows nothing.

If left in this state it can just stay like this forever, until the battery runs flat or I remove the battery.

Initially I thought the harddrive was dead, so I replace it. But still its the same.

Would appreciate if any one can give me some advice?

iBook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

See this Apple note on startup with no video. The note will reference resetting the PMU, so see this Apple note on that.

Thanks for your reply.

I've tried it but nothing seems to work.

I don't even hear the startup tone, just the CD drive turns on for awhile then off, and the fan on indefinitely.

Pressing the power button for 10 seconds doesn't turns off the power. It only turns off when I press shift-cntrl-option-power.

Hello,

Have you replaced the memory recently? I've known this to happen when a memory module has been faulty.

If it has extra memory installed, maybe try taking it out and start the PowerBook.
