What does the number in parentheses next to "News" in my toolbar mean?

The number of unread news articles? Might help to tell us what toolbar and what "News" you mean.

The toolbar that comes on every imac or macbook pro that is made. It's starts off with "Apple" and ends with "Popular."
I'm fascinated to find out what Redenstein is referring to. I don't see any thing like that on any of my Macs.
Right under my address bar on both my imac and macbook pro there are 7 listings. They read from right to left "Apple Yahoo Google Maps Youtube Wikipedia News(129) Popular." I did not installl this toolbar, it came that way. The number next to "News" contunually increases. I don't know what it is referring to.
*That should be left to right.
Is this Safari? Maybe posting a screen-shot would clear it up?
That is Safari you are looking at, not the OS X screen. The number in perentheses is the number of RSS news items that are currently unread.
Thanks Kappy. So now, how do i get rid of it, or at least reset it to 0?
1- Got to the Safari menu and click:
Safari > Preferences
2- Select:
"RSS"
3- Tick off:
"Automatically update articles in: Bookmarks bar"

You may have to click on "Remove Now" as well.
