My speaker on my iPhone 4s stopped working. I can't hear my phone ringing, music, apps or use the speaker when having a call. I can still make and take calls when I see them calling but can't hear the phone ring.

This afternoon my speaker on my phone stopped working. I can not hear it ringing when someone call, but if I see someone calling and I answer the call they can hear me and I can hear them fine. I also can't not put the caller on speaker at all , I also can't hear my music or gaming apps. When I turn my phone on or off it does not make a sound as well. I have turned the phone off and turned it off by pressing the top button and home button at the same time and that did not work. I checked the volume and the mute button and the volume is up all the way. I don't know what else to do can you please help me?

No I checked that and the volume and it is set correctly:( I am backing up my phone to iTunes right now because I read that I may have to restore my phone to maybe get it back to work. The weird thing is, is this morning my alarm went off and I could hear it but then it turned off, I checked my phone thinking it was working again but no still no change can't hear phone ringing, music, game apps, notifications, or turning on or off my phone.

OK, backing up isalways a good thing to do.

After that do the following (if you did not do that already):

hold Home button and Sleep/Wake button at the same time, keep holding, ignore the on/off slider, keep holding until you see the white Apple logo, let go and let it start up.

If the sound still is not there, connect and do the Restore.

Hey there,

I was having an intermittent sound issue and discovered it was related to Bluetooth. Whenever my phone was pairing with a Bluetooth device (handset or car) most of the sound was also being transferred to that device and I didn't realize it. Turning off Bluetooth instantly fixed the issue. Or you can increase the volume (select aux/USB source) and you'll hear the missing sounds!

Good Luck

I have had this happen to me on 3GS, 4 and 4s. Usually the solution is one of the following:

1- If your volume indicator says headphones even though they are not plugged in, then:

Stick your headphones into the headphone jack and then remove quickly.

2. If that does not work Power your phone off. Then when restarting Reset the phone by pressing the home button and the power button at the same time until the apple logo appears.

3. Make sure you have not chosen to send audio to an Airplay device such as Apple Tv.

Hope one of these works for you

I was sure my speaker/ringer was set to on, but it wasn't. I have an Otterbox, and how my side switch gets moved is beyond me, but this has happened to me twice now. The switch (upper left side of phone as you are looking at it) has to be slid up to the top position or you will not hear the phone ring. The otterbox has a flap over this adjustment, but it must occasionally pop loose and all i can think of is that when I "re-fasten" it I must inadvertently hit the switch.
