Browsing on macbook pro is very slow

Browsing the internet on my late 2011 macbook pro is suddenly very slow, with even the apple website timing out on me occasionally. When pages do load, it takes a very long time. The performance of the rest of my applications is fine, but it doesn't matter what browser I try, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, they all have incredibly slow speeds. Although I doubted it, I installed Sophos anitivirus for mac, and scanned my whole system, but of course found nothing. This is becoming very frustrating, and I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone has to offer. Thanks in advance.

Hi...

Try Starting up in Safe Mode

That deletes system caches that may help. A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.

Once you see the Desktop click the Apple menu icon top left corner of your screen. From the drop down menu click Restart.

If that didn't help, try uninstalling Sophos > http://help.bol.ucla.edu/app/answers/detail/a_id/879

Then try your browsers. It could be the security software that's slowing your browsers down.

If that helps, you could try a different anti virus software such as ClamXav. It's free and Lion v10.7 compatible.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. OpenDNS seems to have been the answer. I'm so relieved that my Mac is back to normal. My only questions is, why wasn't I experieincing this problem before? I am very happy that OpenDNS has solved the problem, but I'm just curious why I haven't had any trouble with browser speeds since I bought my Mac, and then in the past couple of days I encountered the problem? Thanks again for your help.
