Can I transfer all my documents/music etc. onto my new iMac from my MacBook Pro using time machine?

I have a Time Capsule and I need to transfer all my music and documents from my MacBook to my iMac because i'm going to restore my MacBook and I need my iMac to be my main computer because, as it's new, it doesn't have my music and photos on it and it was registered to my mum so I had to restore it to get it registered to me. I'm worried beause I don't want to lose all my photos and especially my music but I don't know if it will work from one to the other?
