Muted individual contact; do not receive notifications on messages

Had same problem iOS 10.3.3 and held down "i" button in message thread and that enabled me to unmute individual contact. Thanks your answer helped us to work out how to sort out the issue nicely.

I muted in contacts, but couldn’t find it after an update, fiddled around and accidentally slid the contact to the left in my list of messages, the option is there now.

This just happened to me. I finally figured out to go to the messages from that person, click on Details, in the upper right hand corner. On that page go down to the Do Not Disturb option and slide it to the off position.

Any thoughts on what to do if one doesn't have any messages from the contact in question?

I receive inappropriately frequent (and obviously unwelcome) calls from the contact I'm looking to mute, but no text messages. And blocking the contact isn't the best solution in this case.

I didn't think this was possible in iOS 5.

I just noticed this same thing on mine! Just today, not sure why, it's only on one single contact (That I know of).

This is done by editing the contact’s details via Phone > Contacts > -select contact- > Edit, then changing the ringtone and/or text tone to “None”.

Not so. Under the contact, it is set to the default tone. I did try changing it to a different tone from the default, and it made no change.

I'm just saying. that is where the option is for specific caller tones. Not a fix.

For Text tone there is an option for none.

Are you using the stock Messages app?

No, This turns out to be a feature of BiteSMS on Jailbroken devices.
