My iPod is defintely 8gb and when I connect to the computer iTunes says that it's storage capacity is 6.43gb. Please tell me how this can be fixed.

iPod touch (4th generation), iOS 5.1.1, 8gb, White

That's the correct value.  The IOS (operating system) takes up a portion of the storage.

is there some sort of way i can degrade my iOs system so it doesnt take up as much memory

    Thats a scam!

Oh?  You believe that the operating system should magically take up zero space?

the operating system shouldnt be included in the 8gb, to me this is false advertising

Please identify one single computer that's advertised to meet your approval.

well so far my hp laptop that i purchased last year has gave me no bother (apart from when i accidentally cracked the screen which i later got fixed) no false advertising so it did what it said on the tin

Did the advertised size of the hard drive exclude the room for the OS?

well i am looking at the website of which i purchased the iPod from and it says nothing about the iOS or OS thing taking up any memory whatsoever, but i must ask you if you know of any ways that I could down-grade my iPod to a older version of iOS where it would take up a significant less amount of memory

Please identify ONE computer that is advertised with a hard drive size that excludes the operating system.

No, you can not downgrade your IOS and, if you could, you would create myriad problems for yourself.  Besides, the current generation of IOS does not require significantly more storage than previous generations.

thank you very much for all of your help, this info has been very useful.

i dont quite understand what you mean by your question though, could you reword it

  • Philly_Phan Level 6 (13,211 points)

You're upset because the iPad storage capacity does not exclude the amount of storage required by the operating system.  That's exactly what ALL computer advertisements do.  I was asking you to identify an exception.

im pretty sure my hp laptop does not have a massive amount of it's advertised memory taken up by it's operating system, and why should I care if OTHER devices are the same as iPod's I came here to find a remedy for the major problem that my iPod has, and in this case that all iPod's have. I came here looking for fixes and advice and not to be questioned, if you're just going to asks questions you are absolutely no help to me so i would request that you stop answering my question with more questions. all you have done is given me more problems, thanks.

It is certainly your right to whine about Apple advertising the same way that everybody in the world advertises.

    Cheers!

i highly doubt that everybody in the world advertises the same way,

    1) not everybody in the world advertises

    2) out of all the companies that do advertising I doubt that they neglect the fact that they're systems are taking up a large part of their prices

you're poor sarcastic humour isn't wanted here so please go back to your parents basement and stop harrassing 14 year boys like myself. i merely wanted a solution to my problem and not a troll giving me the facts of life and advertising.
