My 8gb 4th gen iPod Touch only comes up on iTunes as having 6.43gb, does anybody have any remedies for this problem?

My iPod is defintely 8gb and when I connect to the computer iTunes says that it's storage capacity is 6.43gb. Please tell me how this can be fixed.

That's the correct value. The IOS (operating system) takes up a portion of the storage.

im pretty sure my hp laptop does not have a massive amount of it's advertised memory taken up by it's operating system, and why should I care if OTHER devices are the same as iPod's I came here to find a remedy for the major problem that my iPod has, and in this case that all iPod's have. I came here looking for fixes and advice and not to be questioned, if you're just going to asks questions you are absolutely no help to me so i would request that you stop answering my question with more questions. all you have done is given me more problems, thanks.

i highly doubt that everybody in the world advertises the same way,

1) not everybody in the world advertises

2) out of all the companies that do advertising I doubt that they neglect the fact that they're systems are taking up a large part of their prices

you're poor sarcastic humour isn't wanted here so please go back to your parents basement and stop harrassing 14 year boys like myself. i merely wanted a solution to my problem and not a troll giving me the facts of life and advertising.

I think you are ebing particularly unfair.

If I but a PC with a 1TB drive and it had 20% of its available storage taken up by OS and bundled software - I would still have 800GB to play with.

But an 8GB ipod touch being left with 5.5GB-6GB of usable media storage is absolutely shocking.

I'm an apple fan (household has 2 iphones and more ipods than I care to count) so this isnt apple bashing, but the advertisign is VERY miselading to joe public - perhaps no more so than any PC manufacturer but as I said above the impact on a PC is so much less than it is on a memory constrained device like an ipod.

Of course if apple included an SD slot all this could be easilly resolved ... :-)
