hi, i have an airport express that always worked properly, then a week ago or so, it stoped working without a reason, the light is solid amber for like a minute, and then it flashes the green light and it goes back to amber again, and the network is not appearing, sometimes it does, but since the problem it only appeared twice, does anyone know what can i do? thank you so much!

Have to say, it's hard to believe. My AE has been on the way to the bin for the last six months. I've tried everything; all the resets etc - and then I saw this post at the unit's eleventh hour. Nothing to lose, so I flung it onto the floor with force. Plugged it in and Hey Presto! It is running hotter than I remember so I'm not sure it's truly factory reconditioned. It may now catch fire but what the hey - it was worth it just for the story. And it tests fine. Go figure...

I live in Bulgarian and during communist days all technology was fixed with "the drop or hit hard" test.
And I can't believe this ACTUALLY RESOLVED THIS PROBLEM for me.
Apple, you should add this in the instructions manual from now on.

If I were you, I'd reset to factory default and start over again.
I had a similar problem with my brand new Airport Extreme Dual Band. After reading the manual over and over again, scour the web, I finally figured out what to do to fix it. Amazing that Apple didn't mention this anywhere in the manual - REBOOT the Airport Extreme Base Station but just disconnecting the power cord for ten seconds or so and BINGO - Airport Utility now "sees" the new Airport Express.

Same to me: after upgrading AirPort Express (AE) to 7.6.1 a few weeks ago, it regurlaly hangs, but works fine for hours or days in between. The AE extends a wireless network created by a Time Capsule (TC). TC was upgraded to 7.6.1 at the same time and works without problems.
When AE hangs, it's restarting itself all the time: the status light is solid amber for about a minute (start-up), then flashes two times amber (connecting), becomes green (ok) for half a second, and then solid amber again (restart). This cyclic restarting can last for hours. Very strange behavior... During such cyclic restarting, it is on so shortly that it never shows up in AirPort Utility and it is impossible to connect and read the log file.
Resetting to factory values and reconfiguring does not solve the problem. Configuring to join (instead of extend) the wireless network does not solve the problem. My next try will be to revert to firmware 7.6 (AirPort Utility 5.6 > Base Station > Upoad Firmware... > select previous version from the list).
Any other ideas around?
tobi, solid amber means it's in the startup-phase. If it keeps looking and going back into a startup phase, right after, then that COULD mean a failing unit. However, if you just mean it's startng to blink amber after being solid for a minute, then that's another story.
Try the factory reset for now an re-set it up...
I have exactly the same problem. Factory reset does nothing.
Don't waste more of your time like I unfortunately did. I got the unit replaced at the Apple Store and it worked instantly rigfht out of the box! Some of these units are obviously defective. Mine worked for a month or so before the problem developed. The new replacement has been working perfectly for several weeks now!
Think it's a hardware issue. Read in other threads that's it's some sodering not working 😟 - Mine has broken after 6 years of service. Amber Green Amber.

i might be a little to late and i know this sounds fake but this happened to me and i got mad at and threw it on the ground and now it works perfect !!!! who wouldv thunk LOL
Well I thought it was a little far fetched but not kidding, it worked for me too! Dropped it from about 1 metre on to concrete.
I am cracking up right now... Apple did not test this repair I am sure. I tried throwing mine on the carpet and worked!!!
I had one express collecting thus since it did not work, but throwing it on the carpet did the trick :))) Thank you man.
Alright... I'm pretty mind blown right now... my AE has been out of commission for a long period of time.. I had done everything from resets to downloading old versions of airport utility... Lo and behold dropping the unit onto carpet and a good slap... Voilà it works.. Thanks guys saved me $99 on buying a new one!
I had the same problem - an AE purchased in 2010 - the light was solid amber for a minute or two, then it flashes green for less than a second then goes back to solid amber. After hours and hours of Google searching and failed reset attempts, dropping it onto a carpeted floor from about 3 feet fixed the issue. Who would have thought!
