iPhone 4 not recognized in iTunes

Trying to Sync my iPhone 4 but it will not show up under devices in iTunes - thought i had a bad plug or connector but plugged our other iphone 4 in it popped right up and was able to sync, am using my mac desk top and tried my macbook pro too. Did get error message but unfortunately did not write it down :-(

Please help!
