This is great if you have a secondary email address associated with your apple id, but if when you created your apple id you did not provide or were not prompted for a secondary email address you still need to go thru via telephone with apple support to get this resolved.

Yes go to view my apple id then payment information choose master or visa then fill in the blank, then sign out. Sign in again. If you still have balance go back to payment info select none. And it's ready for you to purchase what you want.

Thank you so much for the information, was beginning to pull my hair out with trying this and that and nothing would work until I read your advice. Worked first time, if anyone has any sense they will read this and follow your advice. I have an extremely happy 16 year old who got his first iPad yesterday and couldnt download until I read what you had written.

You are an angel - thank you so much

I don't ever remember setting answers to any security questions, but it won't let me change them without answering them. And while I know what my answers would have been, they are saying they are wrong.. which makes no sense. Unfortunately, it's after midnight, so I don't want to even bother calling....

I went to the iTunes Store support site and checked for possible ways to remedy this situation. The only article was about the Rescue Email. I used the option on the support page to talk with Apple Support at that moment. Within seconds, my phone rang. I verified that I wanted to talk now and within 30 seconds a person was on the phone. He asked me to verify my Apple ID. I then had to click on the link on the My Apple ID page (appleid.apple.com) to get a 4 digit pin that I then read out to the support tech. A few seconds later, he sent a verification code to my device. In this case, it popped up on my MacBook Pro. I read that number to him and after reading it back to me for verification, he considered me verified. He then reset my security questions without me having to give him any other information.

It was a very easy process that took less than 5 minutes. I was then able to get online and enter answers for the questions that I chose.
