Q: carrier settings

Every time I place my iPad in its dock, I'm asked if I want to update the carrier settings. Anyone else have this? Anyone know why, or how to make it stop?

Did not happen today. Has it been fixed and does anyone know the original cause?

Sadly I am wrong - I forgot I had taken the sim out of my iPad 1. Still same problem on iPad 2. Sorry!

This has to be a bug with iTunes as I still get the "Update your carrier settings" message every time.

Hopefully the new release of iTunes will fix this.

I doubt that very much. There have been a few iTunes updates since this problem first appeared. It's a carrier issue.

It could be, though my carrier settings do update to the latest version, it's just iTunes still continues to pester me.

Just seems like a typical software issue. It fails to recall appropriate information regarding release date and version info so it goes ahead and attempts an update.

Come to think of it, a carrier file wouldn't disturb the transmission of data between the computers USB and the iDevice. It would be like transferring a song in a way but in it's place a carrier file to a different folder.

If the carrier file was at fault the iDevice's cellular connectivity would be disrupted rather than the flow of data on a wired or Wi-Fi connection.

See if your phones using the latest version by Googling up your carriers release history of the file. Wikipedia has the info for some carriers.

I've been using a pay as you go Vodafone sim lately to see if I can get better reception than O2 (surprisingly it was worse). Just put the O2 sim back in and it is now showing carrier version O2 13.0 and has the Personal Hotspot option. I wonder whether this will have fixed the issue. Anyone else on O2 13.0 still getting this tedious message?

    Gone at last!

I cancelled my standing order for my O2 SIM and, although it made no difference to the PITA message at the time, when that final payment expired thus putting me onto the 'sign up when you want it' deal THE NOTIFICATIONS STOPPED!!

I've not seen one for days. I can't for the life of me se the connection but here are the facts (maybe there isn't a connection?)

I have had the same problem: ipad2, O2 payg. There is no solution and clearly O2 is incompetent on this matter. I say enough is enough. I will switch to Vodaphone.

O2 if you're listening (I would not be surprised if you're not): your failure to address this issue is a symptom of your culture. It shows you're in the decline. Again, I'm pretty sure you're not listening. Thanks.

This started happening to me at the same exact time I got a "promotion" from O2 to double my data allowance, I believe around June 2012. I would not be surprised if new subscribers don't have this issue.

Having said this, frankly, I expect them to be able to solve it or loose customers. I don't have the patience or desire to go speak with an uninformed O2 customer service person.

I was having this problem, but I don't get it anymore since I changed my O2 sim for one from GiffGaff, you get a free sim and it uses the O2 signal, you can keep track of how much credit you have left online.
