Sound in my iPad 2 is lost

Do you still get sound from the Music and Videos apps ? If you do then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.

Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. 1. Double-click the Home button and swipe to the right

2. Check if sound is muted

This still didn't work on my IPad. Any other suggestions?

Here is how I soleved the case: today some water was spilt on the iPad.

Then appeared the following phenomena (I confirmed that iPad was not muted; and volume was adjusted to max):

1. No sound for all apps (music, safari etc), EXCEPT that in "General --> Sound", when you adjust the volume for ringtone, the ringtone DOES ring --> which indicated that there was no hardware problem (the speaker);
2. When a headphone was plugged in the jack, for all apps, sound appeared in the headphone;
3. When I purged the water in the sound jack with a absorbent cotton, sound in apps appeared in the speaker.

Noteworthy: ringtone DOES play in the speaker even with headphone plugged in. That's why speaker still works when sound in all apps fails, due to water, debris etc in the sound jack.

iOS 5 breaks 1ST generation iPad internal speakers. Why? I don't know and neither does Apple Tech Support. Now... sound only plays back with a 3.5 phone jack.

I've seen/followed the threads and the advice therin, but there is no answer. So much for all my apps, radios, clocks? My iPad s basically useless.

For what its worth, I had a similar issues and called the UK helpline & technical support number. A guy called Glenn was right on the button with what he thought had gone wrong and he was right. From my perspective, this was an issue with an out of warranty iPad, however, due to Glenn's product knowledge, he was able ascertain what had gone wrong during the iOS 3.2.2 to iOS 5.1 upgrade. This saved me time, money and has restored my faith in Apple as a quality brand. I suggest you call the UK help line. I previously called the American line and, no offense, but they were unable to fix anything. As is often the case, it comes down to skilled individuals who actually care about the company they work for. Call Glenn and his colleagues; they will out you right.

This is incorrect. IOS 5 does NOT break sound on the iPad 1 internal speaker.

@JimHdk - My first point, regarding your comment.

Semantics aside, an upgrade from an early OS to iOS5 can cause the internal software which outputs sound to the internal speaker to cease to function. The problem manifests it self in the rendering of the volume scroller which disappears when playing back audio content with various apps. This was my experience and was confirmed by Apple. So, this is what happened on my ipad and this is why the iPad was (very kindly) re-built by Apple support. Or maybe it was all a dream? No it happened, so you are wrong in your assumptions.

My second point: You rather cheekily stared: “Why post misinformation to a thread that is almost 2 months old?” Well, because the Apple forum is full of threads pertaining to this same issue and quite frankly, the advice given is often entirely wrong, a lot like yourself on this occasion. Try bringing some positivity into the forums imHdk and always remember to do your homework and be guarded in your conversations because without the evidence, there can be no ‘facts’ and one can be (and often is) completely wrong.

OK, When I updated to ios 6, I lost the sound on my ipad. For the first week, I could often get it back by hard booting (holding home key & power button until restarting) but that no longer works. I have no sound in any apps, music, video.... When I double click the home button and swipe to the right, the sound bar is not muted, it is not adjustable at all. If I plug headphones in, the adjustment on the sound bar appears and the sound works with headphones, just not through the ipad speaker. Any suggestions from this point? I do get the ringtone volume to play, so I don't believe it is a hardware problem. If I can't find a solution here, next stop is the genius bar.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm having this problem too on my 1st gen. So aggravating!

I have this problem too. When I re-boot, sometimes it works for a while. Would it be covered under warranty?

I finally took my ipad into the genius bar and they found that it had a tiny, very tiny, chip on the connector inside the ipad. Fortunately, I still had about a week on my warranty and they replaced it under warranty.

Hello i have myself got this problem, i double clicked home button swiped right and found sound indicator at nill but could not turn it up, please help/advise.
