Q: Can't change skin of Address bk/iCal in MBP retina

Just got my new MBP retina! sweet. Migrated everything over to it from old MBP. I had changed the skin of Address Book and iCal from that hideous leather look to an aluminum look using

http://macnix.blogspot.com/2011/07/change-mac-os-x-107-lion-ical-skin-to.html

but this is not working on my new MBP retina.

I also tried a product called LionBleacher

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39514/lionbleacher

both say succesful installation but it (they) did not change the skin.

anyone have luck with new MBP, how I hate that leather skin

thanks

Just tried, same problem. I hope someone comes up with a fix, what's the point, I ask myself, of having the latest computer when the calendar and address book look like something from the 1930's!

    Hi there,

I hade the same problem on my MacBook Pro with Retina display, MAC OSX 10.7.4. Whant you need to do is run iCal and Addressbook in "low resolution" mode in order to apply the changes.

Here's how to do that  (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5266):

    1. Quit the application if it is currently open.
    2. In the Finder, choose Applications from the Go menu.
    3. In the Applications folder that opens, click the application's icon (e.g. iCal) so it is highlighted.
    4. Choose Get Info from the File menu.
    5. Place a checkmark next to "Open in Low Resolution" to enable Low Resolution mode.

       6. Close the window and double click the iCal icon in Applications to reopen iCal.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks so much.

I put them in low resolution but i had to reapply the skin change programs to make them work, but they did!

iCal and address book look fine in low res.

You would think that this would be fixed by now by the several makers of "skin changers".

Regardless, kudos for figuring that out!

please repost if you find that someone makes a versino in high res mode for those two applications.

    goodby hideous leather skin

I am reading Steve Jobs biography (highly recommend it), I have to wonder HOW this one got by him. He is (was) SUCH a stickler for hip clean design detail, and the leather skin was soooooo cheesy.

    thanks

I upgraded to Mountain Lion (ML) and used this link for ML versions of the skins:

    http://macnix.blogspot.com/2012/05/change-mac-os-108-mountain-lion.html

and the skins work without having to open in "Low Resolution".

If you look at the list of skins to replace, you'll notice there's a 2x.png of each part. I'm assuming if you resize the lower res skins or recreate them to the dimensions of the '2x's you'll be able to get the look you want for the high res calander.
