Computer goes slow when running SketchUp/ Layout

Hi friends,

I'm using an iMac and find it difficult when running SketchUp/ Layout. It takes up to 5 to 6 mins to load a Layout file or it re-calculate and halt every few minutes when I am using SketchUp. While waiting for it's re-calculation or loading up, I can still use other softwares normally.

I wonder if it is one of the following problems: -

1. The softwares use massive RAM that my computer don't have? if yes, how can I allocate more RAM for these 2 softwares?

2. My computer is not powerful enough to run rendering softwares, like SketchUp/ Layout?

The following is the spec of my computer,

Intel Core i3, 3.06 GHz.

Hello Warren,

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?

How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.

In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

Helps for your prompt reply.

However, there are a few things I don't quite understand. Please see my Activity Monitors (Before/ Loading Layout/ Loaded) as shown below:

I noticed there are changes in Free space before & after, but I don't know if there is anything I can do. I noticed that the Layout program is highlighted as "Not Responding" during loading, but it eventually loaded, does it mean something? Also, the Page outs is in 0, does this mean anything?

Hi, I cant see those pics on your computer, in a reply click on the little Camera icon & upload them to a reply.

Not responding just means something is taking up CPU% too much most likely. No Pageouts is a good sign.

How about Console? Any messages there that you can copy & paste the text here?
