Hi

This is just to inform you that I have today spoken to, a Mac Tech Manger (Chris) who has assured me that, my iMac late 2006, 20" which has 3gb ram and is currently running 10.7.4, will run Mountain Lion. He verified the 'correct' age of my iMac, and added that the spec required on the apple store page was "privisional" and as yet un-confirmed, BUT was confident that ML will install.

Jamie, there are many opinions, posted in other parts of this forum, that will not just disagree, but will also profess, that apple mac employees, are wrong.

That is why I made two calls and spoke to a manager called 'Paul' who went as far, as to give me a reference number, regarding this issue.

To the best of my recollection, Jamie, this is what he said:

Take it from me, your Imac will run Mountain Lion. We are merely recommending the specification required, until the final release.. The worse case scenario, will be that a couple of features may not run.

He finally concluded by saying that if if you can run Lion, then Mountain Lion will install, and stressed not to take any notice of some posts regarding this matter, and he was very ademant, about it.

I will be dissapointed and annoyed if I can't.

All the best.

Thanks Steve, I currently have os x Lion and it works perfectly with no flaws or lags that I have noticed and runs perfectly with my trackpad. It does make sense what your saying I think many bloggers are taking apple's words and blowing things way out of proportions so I'm going to wait and see what happens. It seems like we shouldn't have any problems though..

Thanks for your help!

Yes Stevejobsfan0123, I contacted Apple support via the Brent Cross number, chose oprion 2, and spoke to a manager called, Paul.

Please see my post and you will see I also got a reference number, and furthermore an email.

So with all this in mind and as I said to Jamie, I will be dissapointed and annoyed if I can not install Mountain Lion, and will if necesary kick up an almighty fuss, when you consider the assurance I have been given.

So with this assurance, I once again suggest you ring Apple and tell them yourself, that they are miss leading people, or someone is diverting their phones to an imposter.

Well judging from what I'm hearing here I think I'll call them for myself just to verfy that and maybe i'll reply with whatever they tell me, either that or wait til the software is released then we'll definitely know the answer, I've seen the list on the Mac website and I know apple has refused to elaborate on why the other macs are not compatible. I also know the requirements are subject to change up to release day. I just would not trust the non-apple sites as to why this requirement happened with the graphics, memory, etc. Those are assumptions based on comparing and contrasting each model, some of those sites managed to put in that Microsoft is still gonna allow even the ancient PC's to upgrade to windows 8 so I'm thikning there's a bit of a bias spin on those sites. Anyways, if it doesn't work out my Macbook is in the compatible list even if my iMac isn't but I'll call apple and see what they say.

So I called apple support today via the number given on their website support section and spoke with tech support. I asked them whether Mountain lion would be able to run at all on a device not listed in the requiremed devices listed on the website, she told me no. I would be able to purchase and download it from the app store, but when I try to install it to the iMac a notification would pop up and inform me that the software cannot install on this version of iMac. However if this did happen I would be able to get a refund if I take the necessary steps.

Like I said I have a MacBook pro that will be compatible so it's not a total loss for me. I was more hoping to use airplay on my iMac to save a strain on my ipad but that ended up a little too ambiguous 😝. Regardless os x lion works perfectly on my iMac already, and I'm more than likely going to upgrade my iMac within a year or so cuz I've obviously had the late 2006 for a long time. I may try it anyways since I'm already going to purchase ML for my MacBook pro, but thanks everyone for the help hope this helps someone else too.
