Jun 16, 2012 2:05 PM in response to willcainby roaminggnome,★HelpfulNo. There is nothing you can do to stop the thief from using it as his/her own.
IF you had set up find my ipod on the ipod itself before it was stolen and it is on and it is connected to wi-fi and it has not been restored by the thief, then you may be able to track it to an approximate street address and you may be able to wipe it using icloud.
Otherwise there is no way to track it.

If yuo have already turned on the FIndMyiPod in Settings>iCluld and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud, log in and go to FIndMyPhone.
iCloud: Troubleshooting Find My iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac
Apple wil not help with anything
Report to police and the school and change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPOd
