My iPod Touch sounds terrible

It only sounds terrible, (like the lyrics are really muffled and there's no bass,) when my headphones are plugged all the way in. If I don't plug the headphones in all of the way they sound fine, but then I have to hold them their. Any help?

It's not the headphones that are the problem, they work just fine on a friends iPod and my computer for that matter.

iPod touch, iOS 5.1.1

Try cleaning/blowing out the headphone jack on the iPod. There may be foreign material inside. Also, insert and renove the plug a dozen or more times.

If yyu still have the problem that ponts to a defective headohone jack and the jack has to be replaced.
