Wireless printing error - OKIHC003.plugin... fail ?

I bought a brand new OKI C511 and although I can connect when USB is directly connected my my MacBook, when trying to do so wirelessly, I get:

/Library/Printers/OKIDATA/Filters/OKIHC003.plugin/Contents/MacOS/OKIHC003 failed

Can anybody help me with this? I've been trying to get it to work for the last 10 hours and I am so frustrated... :-(

Taking another route (not USB Bonjour) I tried setting up IP with LPD. I get that my IP address is "valid and complete". Leaving Queue blank as instructed on the "Add Printer" pane, I choose "Print Using" C511 then I get "Unable to connect due to an error. Would you still like to create the queue?". Neither Continue or Cancel lets me print. I read somewhere to put "lp" in the queue instead of leaving it blank and that does not work either. I tried selecting a generic printer instead of my installed driver 511 but no success.

Is there some other way that I can print wirelessly from this printer?

With regards to LPD connection, some printers do not support this protocol. Given the message you get when trying to create the IP queue, then this could be the case for this Oki. To check if it does support LPD, or another IP protocol, you can connect to the printers internal web page by entering its IP address into a web browser. With luck there will be a network settings menu and the option to enable LPD/LPR. If you also see RAW Port 9100, then this is known as HP Jetdirect-Socket on the Mac, so you could try that protocol.

And with regards to the Generic PS or PCL drivers included with the Mac, the printer would have to support these protocols for them to work.

Re the plugin error when using Bonjour, you could try running repair disk permissions. But in theory this plugin is also used when printing via USB and that works fine. So unless the plugin is just related to network printing then the disk repair may be of no help. If this driver is definitely the latest 10.7 compatible then I would be calling Oki technical support.

Thanks for reaching out. The instruction manual says that it supports LPD. I took your advice and tried to see if entering the IP address into my web browser would do anything but no... it gets me no where. I get the plugin error on two computers, 10.7 and 10.5. The driver is the most recent.

I am at a loss... I went out and bought a very long USB cable and connected it to my desktop (10.5) and from there, wirelessly print from my other Mac but I'm not able to make any setting changes on my laptop (color/grayscale; 2-sided prints, etc.) with this setup and my desktop has to always be on.

I guess I'll have to wait until the weekend is over and somehow find time during normal business hours to give OKI a call. I've had numerous printers over the years and never have I had such problems before!

If there are any more suggestions, I'd really appreciate it--

'Ended up spending 6+ hours with OKI tech support. We tried many many things but in the end could not get my brand new OKI 511dn to print wirelessly when connected using USB via a hub. Tech support concluded that it must have something to do with the way the printer handles PostScript.... Something about Apple wireless products / Bonjour not being able transfer PostScript correctly via USB. So if I had bought a cheaper laser printer (non PostScript) then I should have had no problem--so goes the logic!

In the end, we were able to connect my new printer using LAN (going the IP and not USB route) via Airport.

In the process I ended up buying a 10-meter long USB extension cable which I won't be using, and I had to go out and buy a 15-meter LAN cable to "reroute". I am glad that I'm connected now but it took so so so many hours of trial and error and time on the phone with tech support (not toll-free where I'm located)...I am exhausted!

Bottom line: If you want to connect the latest OKI series color laser printer wirelessly through a USB hub and access it with Bonjour, you might want to go with a lower-end non-PostScript printer. Or, make sure that OKI has an updated driver that is compatible before whipping out your credit card.

I hope that this helps someone.
