How can the international keyboard switch key in the ipad keyboard be activated using an English (USA) bluetooth keyboard? There's no corresponding key.

Assuming it's an Apple layout keyboard, hold down the command key. When you hit the space bar once, the menu of available languages will pop up, and you can toggle between them with the space bar. After you find the language you want, release the command key.
You should find that the standard shortcuts for switching keyboard layouts, command + space and command + shift + space, will go to the previous source and go through all your sources, respectively.
