I want to report a new type of image retention. This seems to be different than the usual form of image retention reported by others. I will demonstrate it in 3 photographs below.
In photograph 1, I used a graphics editor to display the text "HELLO!" and I left it in the bottom left corner for several minutes.
In photograph 2, I switched to Safari and went to a Web site with a certain colour background that best shows the effect. You can see the same text "HELLO!" on the screen. This effect is best seen against a dark colour like dark blue or dark brown and difficult to see against full black or full white. I found it's best seen on the OS X Login screen.
In photograph 3, you can see how it looks in the general case with no particular text left on the screen; it's like a sprinking of different coloured pixels
Some more notes:
— Display is LP154WT1-SJE, A019
— Display has an overal yellow tint and I run it at 7000 K or 7500 K
— Display has a yellow blotch in lower-left region
— Display has a blue blotch in the lower-middle
— Display doesn't exhibit the traditional image retention reported by others tested by showing a grid for 10 minutes
— Machine is late-2013 15" Retina MacBook Pro with discrete graphics and is a replacement from a mid-2012 model which had its display replaced twice for other reasons
— I haven't visited the Genius Bar yet for this problem; I've lost count how many times I've been to the Genius bar since my original purchase in July 2012
— This effect only occurs in the lower-left corner
— It seems to be getting worse over time
— The effect goes away after several minutes
— A traditional image retention grid test will show very faint squares in the lower-left quadrant of the display
