Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    Same happened to me!

I live in Bucharest, Romania and checked 4 MBPr's at local retailers (since I have ordered mine and expected to arrive next week).

Three of them were LG and showed IR after only 1 minute on a dark grey background!!!! The fourth was Samsung and "surprise" no IR at all! Very, very dissapointed about this bs Apple is selling!

I talked to the guys in the showroom and they told me that current Mbpr's have multiple issues (have you heard that the wireless fails if you connect a bluetooth mouse  - say magic mouse- on every current mbpr even with ML installed?) and that Apple does not recognise these as problems.

It seems Apple is not anymore what it used to be in terms of quality.

I can understand innovation but what good is it if in comes with a faulty product.

In the past I have exchanged one Iphone 4 and three! Iphones 4s till I got one actually that worked.

    Big thumbs down for this.

I guess Apple is too busy now with the launch of the upcoming Iphone5 so till september I doubt they will give an official response to MBPr issues!

And they are doing this using our money, time and nerves!

Didn't you get the memo? Apple is a phone company now.

    I posted a while back.

1st rMBP was a good LG no IR (2.3/256/16) I wanted to spec up to the 2.6 so I returned it after 7 days and recieved one with a Samsung screen, no issues (SN does start with C02). Both looked good, white point was definitely different and the LG was slightly dimmer.

Side note, I have a brother in the home appliance industry - he claims that LG ***** at making home appliances too. FWIW.

Your brother is right, If possible go up to an electronics store and look at the image quality of Samsung vs LG LCD TVs.

LG is a perfectly good manufacturer and makes many excellent products.  I would guess though that these dispalys are actually coming out of a SHARP factory.

Yes more than likely, as it was Sharp / Philips that developed the 'Retina' display technology. Apple just purchased the rights to it.

LG is an up and coming manufacturer but based on what I have seen and see living in Asia, LG quality (or their subsidiaries) is not as refined as Samsung (not even saying Samsung is the best).  In addition, what I am seeing with these Apple LCDs reaffirms my beliefs.

Have you checked with Apple Care?  I think you should call them and find out those details.

Last night was the first that i had to use my rMBP

It is a custom build 16/2.7/512 and my heart sank when i went to the terminal to find it was a LG screen

    LP154WT1-SJA1

I have done the checkerboard test though and cannot see any traces of IR

should i carry on checking to hope they "fail"

    Cheers

    Kobestarr,

my 2.6/16/512 arrived yesterday, and my heart also sank when I saw it had an LG screen! But I don't seem to have any IR as of yet. I'm a little disappointed by the yellow tinge to the screen however, and I can't seem to get a good calibration manually either. This alone is making me think about a return while I still can.

Just wondering from people in general who have received LG LP154WT1-SJA1 screens - are you returning them anyway? I am still thinking that a Samsung screen sounds superior colour-wise, and even if I haven't got IR (yet!) I still would prefer a samsung (for photo editing), and for longer-term pice of mind.

I could just get a full refund on this one and wait. But do we know when Apple are likely to finally sort this out i.e. admit there is a problem, and use ONE screen which works for everyone, instead of this ridiculous lottery?!
