Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

Just incase you think everyone on this thread has OCD or is crazy, this is what my first rMBP looked like after 5 - 10 minutes.

I never had that opinion.  I seen enough examples.

I've got a week 34 build Macbook Pro Retina with an LG screen-  Absolutly nothing wrong with it.  Its bright, whites are white, colors accurate and most important NO BURN IN!  IN addition to that I also downloaded the trial of Office 2011 and its as crisp as can be.  I don't know if Microsoft updated it or not, but there is no issue at all with the image quality.

I wish they had upgraded mine too. Did you ask or did they offer? I'm still waiting for my repaired mbpr to deliver.

While waiting for the 2nd replacement, it's getting more and more exiting to test this rMBP. Now I have a new 'feature' - sort of IR but not IR

called Apple *again* ... after they made me go to a local non-Apple-Store place first.

out of the 30 days. so only options are to mail it back or have it taken apart.

pretty unacceptable that a computer barely over a month old is having to be taken apart already.

Hi Johns1, sorry you don't agree with me and countless others, including web sites like this one: http://osxdaily.com/2011/10/30/how-to-check-for-an-lg-display-in-a-macbook-air-a nd-make-it-look-better/

If you take your time, like I have, to visit 3 different Apple stores and compare LG to Samsung displays, you will see what I have seen.  LG displays are not as sharp and colorful as Samsung, in the same way AUO displays are dull, sharp, and not colorful.

It's like going shopping for a LCD TV.  Look at Sony, LG, and Samsung at your local e-tailor and you will see a difference... unfortunately, they are not all the same.

    Cheers

Everyone has a right to a opinion, but your previous post is against MacBook Pro or Air, and that online article is only about MacBook Air.

Then you make comment about "washed out colors and low contrast seem to be standard on the LG" as factual in your previous post, what do you expect?     BTW I am more aware of the various HDTV product lines and technology trends then a few trips down to the local big box store, but I won't dwell on that off-topic.    I suggest you use a MBPr  for a few weeks even oh my with a LG panel, and tell me that it has washed out colors and low contrast, as that is smoke.

    Cheers

Actually, my response was to another poster who said he was going to buy a MacBook Pro non-retina.  We weren't talking about the Retina.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.

But there are some on this thread who say that the LG Retina has yellowish whites, and are generally not happy with the colors.  That's there opinion, not mine as I don't have one because of this thread.

Sorry also for the misunderstanding, it just really gets confusing by all the posts here that vary off the topic.

I also am concerned when I hear of anyone else end up with a yellowish panel, as that would really bug me, next to stuck/dead panels.     BTW I see these computers frequently so always looking for panel batch issues or other prblems that would be of a business concern.

It's totally understandable that Apple requires various manufacturers to make their LCDs.  It would be bad business and probably impossible to have just Samsung make all of a specific part.  It's also natural that there will be variations in each panal.  It's just a shame that the variations in this particular thread have wasted so much of our time with returns, testing, restoring data, etc.

I have seen the LG Retina, it's a magnificient screen... but I have not seen it next to a Samsung, or a respectable sampling of.  I can only go by what people are saying here as I said before.

I'm personally bumming because I have gotten 3 Airs in the last 5 weeks (1 AUO and 2 LG) and all of them had LCD issues.  Waiting on my 4th and hoping it will have a crisp display... again, thats going on at another thread and appologize for going off topic, just wanted to help that other user.

Apple is the most valuable company in the world now... I still remember the look on my friends faces when I bought my 17 inch PowerBook in 2001.    The world thought Apple was dead back then, but we knew better.

My both screens were LG and both were yellow. On the one hand, serfing the web for me is ok, I like these yellowness more then cold white. BUT, when there is any B&W photograph, this yellowness appears to be a big problem since B&W is not B&W any more. It's almost like a sepia. This is after built-in Apple callibration. Still yellow.

From here it looks like there is more contrast on the right but a big yellow, while the whites seem more accurate on the left with less contrast (looking down the hall way, I see less detail).  Am I seeing that correctly?

Yes, 17" has a brighter screen and with correct white, but it's not as sharp and contrast as retina.
