Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

    Hi Poidet

I've installed heaven for mac os x and kept it running for days , I have noticed better performance with samsung display , ended with faster FPS compared to LG , but its hard to say for sure , all depends on background applications , processes , tuning etc

    cheers

I got Samsung from first try But in any case I would say: sometimes (and it not depends from backgroud apps totally) I could see lags, especially when scrolling, zooming (mission control, launchpad, switiching between desktops). It's not looks like freeze, no. But fps not enough. Atleast i though in that hardware everything will be just fly!

one more thing i've found it is described here

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19375662

    I've never saw it later

In generall it looks like whole system (software + hardware) not stable enough

My previous macbook automatically reboot it self two times for all 4 years of my usage, and first time it was  happen on 3rd year of using it. This one, reboot it self in first day :-).

Fortunately i never saw such action after

Go to http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php and enter your serial in the top left corner.

You will see the build week of the macbook there.

yes, and apple makes it a bit weird.  Monday to a Monday essentially two weeks later is 15 DAYS, not 14.  Makes sense, but even the Sunday can be considered "over 14 days" I've returned some things before, on the day prior to two weeks later, and it came up "over return period"  They still do it, but usually require a manager sign off.

Anyone found apple's big logo at the back of Macbook pro retina looks slightly pinkish?

My Apple logo is slightly pinkish.  Does this mean something?

I have an LG screen.  I've had my macbook pro with retina display for 8 weeks now.  It is now just starting to show IR.  I mean, very very faintly on the dark gray background.  After I shutdown and coming back in the morning the IR is completely gone.  So far it has not effected my photoshop work.

I don't think Apple would consider this defective and it doesn't bother me at all.  I don't see any yellowish on the screen.  Actually, the screen is quite bright.  We'll see if the IR gets worse over time.  I have the 3 year Applecare Plan so I'm not worried.  Apple support has always been good to me.

My IR was terrible after 6 weeks. I only had to leave something open for around a minute and minimize it - IR was very noticeable on a grey background - text could be clearly read, etc. Apple genius noticed it right away and authorized me for an exchange. I was at the genius bar for less than 3 minutes when they walked out with a brand new computer (albeit, another LG, although this one is vastly better than my old one)

All rMBPs seem to have slightly pinkish apple logos.

could you tell why it's important to known the build week of the machine?

I thought that the only thing that matters for this case is if is a LG or a samsung display!?

Just got off the phone with Apple Support. First guy knew nothing, I mean, nothing... he said it was a shame that they had taken away the ability to control screen brightness... I said, "you mean F1 and F2??" "Oh."

I spoke to a senior advisor or whatever next, and he said that the engineers are aware of the issue, and that a firmware update would be released in the next week or two to resolve this. I'm doubtful. Oh, and in the mean time, he suggested that I use a solid white desktop image until the firmware comes out. I just started laughing...

    That is sooooo sad.

    Use a white background?

Who gives a sh*t about the background?

The background doesn't cause the problem, it just reveals it.

When I go on a web page for 5 minutes and then switch to another web page or application with a lot of darker images on it, I can still see the text from the previous page. It's gross!

For instance, the other day I was reading this thread and then I switched over to flightracker.com and I could clearly see the text on the blue portions of that website. And don't even get me started about my DNS-323 login page. It looks horrible, like my screen is dirty or something.

First, this is NOT a software issue, because people with LG screens running other OSes are seeing this too.

Second, I seriously doubt it's a firmware issue, because if it was, then laptops with Samsung LCD panels would be experiencing this problem too. The Apple engineers may kluge together a fix for the LG displays only, but I'll bet you it will be half-baked and the overall performance of the display will be degraded.

Listen, everybody makes mistakes, even giant behemoths like Apple, but they dropped the ball with the way they're handling this. At the very least, they should be transporting truckloads of display assemblies, with known good Samsung LCD panels in them, to their warehouse hubs. Then, when someone brings one of their rMBP laptops in for this issue, the repair shop quietly repairs it and they move on with their lives. If they'd done this from the beginning, instead of staying publicly silent, which is a passive kind of a cover-up, they'd be a lot better off. This is starting to get critical though, and I'm seeing it on more and more news sites now, at least the tech ones.

    Apple!

Stop with the run-around and be up front.

    I'm tired of this sh*t!

WE are tired of this sh*t!

Give us our Samsung displays! Nothing else will do!
