Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

That firmware update sounds like a good solution, if it really fixes the issue, and not just used to cover up a faulty display..

That is exactly what I concerned. Thank you!

I learned from my client (which cause me lost thouands dollars project as well as the client). Time is money. I spend my time went to apple store (for 7 times) plus called online service again and again. These are my costs. Apple won't pay me for that and the problem still not be solved.

Has anyone heard back from Anandtech or any other Tech Site Writers with regard to this crappy issue that Apple is putting us through?

I don't think the mail will arrive safely. Tim must has a team to deal with all the mails from users.

One thing apple disappointed me again I was told I can have the screen been changed last Friday but I got totally opposite answer yesterday, at the same store.......

I have exchanged my MBPRs for 4 times, all of them have the IR problem. I am going to return the fourth one any way. The machine has wasted me too many time, I decide to stop playing the game with Apple.

BTW, There are 3 MBPRs in my office, too. All of them are LG screens, all of them have the IR problem.

So, for me, I can say 100% of the MBPRs with a LG screen have IR problem.

(Even my old iPad 2 have the IR problem, but I am not sure if it also has a LG screen.)

I wonder if we couldn't send Consumer Reports a tip? They were the ones that got Apple's attention with the iPhone 4's attenna issues... I went to their website, but as I'm working right now I didn't have but a minute to try to find a "tip" link or something. I didn't see anything.

Firmware updates occur because of various issues.  Why assume that a firmware update is evil?

I wish you guys would stop talking about firmware updates.  There is no evidence aside from speculation about this and all this talk about it as if it's a done deal is leading to alot of pointless discussion and confusion.

Its interesting. My macbook pro retina is now going on day 4.

    2.6/16/256 USA

    LG screen

I have tryed to get IR     with test going on 30 minutes now, brightness at or close to high

i go from checkerboard to gray, and i get none at all.

Think the LG will be okay? or develop?

The colors are great   no yellowness that i can see and overall its looks great. No dead pixels.

    I still worry though

Good luck on you? My lovely LG panel was bright and shine, IR free until 2nd week. Now IR is worse and worse. Have ordered refund and will wait for few weeks to see hows going.

Well I hope you are lucky but, the common experience of this forum thread would indicate that there is a high likelihood that you will start to see image retention in anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.  But please, keep us updated either way, we need data points.

    i know

i am really afraid that will happen

i need to put windows on it soon for school.

It would be freaking horrible for that to happen and i have to get a replacement or something.
