Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

Perhaps you didn't see it but I have already responded to your question. You will need the serial number of your machine. Input your serial number into the web address below:

    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

The web site will give you the year and week of the manufacturing date but not the specific day.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you, but this is for the entire Mac. I wanted to know the manufacturing date of the display itself, since I got it exchanged twice.

Dr Sly did post this info in his earlier posts, but not how to get it.

    Hello,

manufacturing date is in System Prefs, Displays, Color, Open Profile, then last entry in that window.

    Yes, Apple0229,

10.8.2 beta 2 is not the solution. Still image retention (on my 3rd LG display).

It's *not* a software problem. Even if they alter the firmware to change the refresh rate, it would be a 'kluge', aka an half-assed heuristic fix to hack our precious machines.

    Arguments:

    - The Samsung displays do not exhibit image retention, why can't people get that through their cerebral cortex?

    - The LG panel IR gets worse over time, how is that a good omen of display durability, firmware fix or not? Certainly not a proof of display quality...

    - Last but not least... The promise of a hypothetical future undisclosed software solution, really? I mean, REALLY? Are some people mad enough that they would buy a 2K-4K $ computer with an obvious FLAW, and be convinced to WAIT for some UNDISCLOSED PERIOD OF TIME for an UNDISCLOSED SOLUTION WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT WORK anyways?

    Madness.

    Sorry, I'm angry ;-)

I tweaked the email from page 136 for my own personal experience.

Which is about five times longer in lenght now alas...

Tomorrow I'll be asking for refund so that I can buy the 16BG/2.6GHz/256GB or for a paid replacement of my 16GB/2.3GHz/256GB with the better machine.

They owe me this exception, since I've already travelled 200 miles to go 5 times to the Apple Store and back. . .

I don't think that Samsungs are still mounted in current models (from week 35 and above). And LG always have IR I think I will just accept that it's a feature and try to live with it, im so sick of all that replacement stress.

I saw a little IR after 20 minutes initially (LG) , now its no longer there after a initial usage no matter what I do?  I had two MPBr's both LG's.   But neither had really any issues.  (changed out first one, due I wanted a better config offered 4 weeks later on base model)

Curious about this working LG... What is the serial, what kind of settings are you running it with, what kind of use are you putting it through?

There could still be a chance that the failing of LG screens is caused by some other internal thing on some proportion of machines. That would explain why replacing the screen with a new LG is always just a temporary solution, while some machines could be unaffected (although I haven't seen one).

It would also be nice to know whether the LGs and Samsungs really are interchangeable components for every rMBP, or are there some other undisclosed differences besides the screen. Just thinking...

I got my 4th failing LG screen today...
