Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I hope not, I should get mine next week, but since I've order the high end model with 16Go, I've no hope, I think I'll get a LG screen. (I guess Apple sell much more the entry model, with the latest hardware avaliable)

    I'll let you know asap.

Well, I hoped not to have to be post again but here I find myself.

The burn-in issue IS FIXED with the new machine (which has a Samsung screen). However, it has two "spots" on it which I am guessing are dead pixels.

I'm not really sure how to proceed. I have called Apple and they are willing to arrange another replacement. I'm really not sure what to do.

The ghosting being gone is greatas it really was an issue but I cannot decide if the pixel issues warrant another replacement.

There are two spots. The first one is top right of the screen about 5mm in from the edge and 15mm down from the top, it must be a single pixel that's dead (dark) as it's a very small point.

The second is on the left edge of the screen about half way up and 20mm in. This must be a small cluster of pixels dead (again dark) as it seems to be larger and more obvious.

What do you guys think? Now that I've seen them I can't help but look at them!!!

Maybe 3rd time will be a charm?

In my case, mine was sent week #30 (24 july), and I should get it the 2 august, I'm not sure this automatically mean I'll get a Samsung screen..

Just got mine yesterday. It has a Samsung screen and i tested it for IR by putting up this page for 40 minutes with max brightness. Found no image retentivity on screen, thank god. Seems like Apple had addressed this issue.

It's an LG/Sharp screen problem. Your best bet would to be just send it back if you get an LG/Sharp screen..

You've suffered enough. You deserve to have a machine without any problem. Don't distract by the Samsung thing or be scared that the forth one could be LG.

Get a replacement. I know it's hard to wait but you've done it so far so don't give up.

    Best of luck

Haven't noticed until recently. Mine's got the ghost image as well. And yes,it's a LG. Not sure what to do, it's been a month since I bought the retina mbp, I wonder if apple will offer me a replacement.

They wont replace the whole machine, they will offer you a repair the screen which in this case is changing the screen.

Oh god no! Whether you have AppleCare or not your first year is warranty. Since this one is not your fault and I believe you should be able to get a new replacement (who knows maybe you could talk them through that it is not fair to repair a one-month old machine) they will repair (change the whole LCD panel) for you for free. Only price you have to pay is time that you have to wait.

    Good luck

No - you have a one-year warranty from time of purchase. You can extend that another two years by buying AppleCare anytime within your one-year warranty. I highly recommend it, particularly for notebooks.

Thank you so much! It's just someone mentioned that the genius charged him 700 to repair the screen so I'm a little worried.

Thank you! I will definitely buy an apple care in case anything like this happens again.

I've spoken to Apple and they are willing to sort out another machine which is great.

The original (with the LG screen/ghosting) needs to be collected first. In the meantime I can keep the replacement (Samsung screen but dead pixels).

When they receive the original machine they will proceed with an order for a new one.

So more waiting. I just hope I get a perfect (or at least close to) screen on the next one. All this waiting around and chopping and changing machines is a real pain.

Had this screen only had the one DP on the the top right I would probably not be bothered/have noticed. But the cluster/spot on the right constantly has me trying to wipe it away as if it were a speck of dust or something! Highly annoying

Apple need to get their QC in order especially on what is basically their flagship laptop at the moment which is being sold primarily on the superiority/prowess of its screen!

Everything else about the machine is great. I really like the form factor etc.

I hope this batch of MBPRs won't have IR problems.

BTW, does anyone know which batch had the IR last?

I really hope my MBPR does not have a LG/Sharp screen
