Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

It's really starting to make me regret my purchase reading all these problem threads on the new rmbp.  Very low chance of receiving a decent screen whether bad color or image retention etc...  Creaky builds...  Poor battery life in mountain lion...  I JUST ordered my first one last week, wont even deliver until later this week (week 35 build based on my serial #) and im already expecting to be disappointed.  The worst thing about all this was i opted to go for the base pro retina because it was only a few hundred dollars more than an equally optioned 13" air, which i read pages and pages of what now seem to be the same issues i may have to deal with anyways.  This was supposed to be my grand return to the mac world and now im worried i will be spending my first 2 weeks making regular visits to my local apple store until i just give up and get a refund to wait even longer.

As a casual user, with normal basic computing needs, occasional imovie use (maybe future final cut pro use), and non-professional photoshop use as a hobby, those with this ir issue, how badly will my experience truly be affected if i end up with an LG screen?  I will not accept a screen with color issues, or battery life problems.  Im curious if the ir is only really noticeable when certain conditions are met, or if this will truly affect me going from one image to the next when using photoshop.  I really dont want to paint myself into a corner mentally and give up on the machine before it even arrives, but reading threads like this really aren't helping my morale over the situation...  The whole "samsung is better" doesnt bother me, but if normal usage with a normal background image being operated by a normal user my experience will clearly be affected is what will bother me.

Perhaps you didn't see it but I have already responded to your question. You will need the serial number of your machine. Input your serial number into the web address below:

    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

The web site will give you the year and week of the manufacturing date but not the specific day.

    Hope this helps.

My second rMBP has been dispatched, due to arrive in a week. I have the serial number in the invoice so I checked it out on http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html, since last time I used a different site:

    http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com

I was curious to see what the chipmunk site tells you too. But a word of caution... the 2 sites gave me different information re build date and also the specs of the machine. In my opinion you are better using http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com since this had the correct specs for the machine I have ordered. The chipmuck site got the RAM and processor details wrong.

I tried the entire day to reproduce the IR and failed with my LG panel (ran the checkerboard test at least three times over at 15 minutes). I could not see ANY IR after these three tests (I did see IR in earlier tests).

So I was happy enough and started to use the Macbook again for programming (Xcode and Eclipse in Ubuntu through VmWare).

After just a few minutes IR appeared and the outline of Eclipse was clearly visible. The only thing that changed is that I enabled Wifi and disconnected the USB ethernet adapter and external USB3 harddisk (so I could work in front of the TV ;-)

I'm in no mood of testing any further. I've requested a refund (and hope I'll get it because my first MBPr was 6 wks old; this replacement is only 4 days old now).

I've also wondered this. It's quite conceivable that no more Samsung screens are being used, which would explain the very high rate of replacement LGs. If so, this REALLY *****. I just wish we knew, cos I would stop wasting my time and accept I'm not going to get a rMBP, if I knew I was never gonna get a good screen.

Will be interesting to see what the 13" has in store... I really wanted 15", but I reckon I'd be willing to wait for a 13" if it has a perfect Samsung screen (though I'm not holding any hopes for anything anymore!)
