Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Dear weird forum name I can't spell or pronounce:

your inciendary and irrelevant post does not further our discussion in any way.

If you had bothered reading most, or even only some, of our messages on this thread, you would have realized that Samsung display owners do not suffer from image retention.

And no other LED LCD from the last decade or so that I have used or read about exhibit image retention or burn in, that's a confabulation of yours. Even the shittiest Dell monitors I have at home and at work do not exhibit image retention or permanent burn in, despite being on 8-12 hours a day all year round.

Please go back to whatever you were doing before trolling on this thread. You shall not be missed.

Sorry I will remove it I had a little rush of childishness go through my head

    - Not been reading all the long posts but if that is the case (people damaging them on purpose etc) then I can kind of agree with people getting angry at them! Anyhow I hope the IR issue gets sorted out for you all soon

Very funny, except you were not part of the people who were accused of deliberately damaging a screen and/or making up stories.

xoiigvgj did. Comments like those do not have legitimacy on this thread.

However, I do appreciate animal pictures (not that they're exactly furthering the issue of whether rBMPS have image retention, why, and what we should do about it).

    Peace out.

    Hey Sly,

I am from Montreal as well. Did you get a Samsung or are you stuck in the same LG boat?

    cheers

    Howdy,

short version: purchased my rMBP (stock model) in late June, had LG, noticed the IR a month later, found this thread, had the display repaired at Apple Store Mtl, another LG, still IR, then another display (less than two weeks ago), IR again, all three LG displays very yellowish compared to my four other displays at home, and even compared to my yellowish iPhone 4S and my iPad 3rd gen.

My fiancée's MBA from last year has a great white point, so does my Apple Cinema Display. I don't know, I think yellow is the new white for LG...

I'm awaiting for another call from a gentleman who identified himself as a 'Corporate Executive Relations, Apple', which will be an interesting exchange. I had sent the email from page 136 of this thread (amended for my own personal experience) and I got an email and a phone call from this gent.

Unfortunately I missed his call, since some crazy man attempted to assassinate our newly elected Prime Minister yestereve, and I live within spitting distance of where it happened, so it's a bit hectic right now in downtown Montreal...

    Peace out

IR becoming stronger and stronger. I've sent my Apple guy another picture of it and I'm waiting for the engineers to have a word on my case. Yes, like they could determin anything just by looking at pictures...

Don't expect too much. I've sent Tim an email, too. Got called by them more than two weeks ago and nothing really has changed, two display repairs aside. I'm in contact with my second Executive Relations guy now and he told me to wait until the engineers take a look at my case...

For G*d's sake Apple! Grow-a-pair, man-up, and publicly admit you have a problem and that you're working on it. That would go a long way towards reclaiming some of the trust you've lost from your loyal Mac fans.

Interesting that the store manager downtown said he never had any returns for IR problems since the release of the retina lol.

p.s Yeah a bit insane last night.

The "crazy man" is most likely some guy who got another LG display after 7 rMBP exchanges.

Just went to the willow bend mall and spoke with 5 people there about maybe buying the top of the line model. Before I did anything, I tried a display unit.  Within 15 seconds on the gray screen there was IR.  I showed the employee and he just said oh, that's not good.  Then I did it again on 3 more of their machines.  I told them about this site and others issues.  They said, I'm not qualified for that, you'd need to talk with a genius.   So I go back there.  I do this and they defer me to the genius appointment maker.  He said I can see about getting you in to speak with a genius later tonight or tomorrow perhaps.  I said I was looking to buy one and didn't have one yet.

So, I just left and said it wasn't necessary.  Apple, get rid of the idiot bar and hire employees that actually know what computers should and shouldn't do.  I pay too much good money to get this garbage level of service.  So that $3,800 they just lost is likely going to a windows machine.  What a class act!

Went to pick up my rMBP today, I had it repaired on Friday. Ran the script, and i got another LG. The white point is fairly white, no IR yet. However the apple logo is pinkish, but i could care less about that. Now i have a bet with my brother to see who can guess what day the IR will appear lols.
