Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Its like after going on a forum where the topic is "short people are thieves" and a thousand people piping in saying, I was robbed by a short person, now short people since these thousand people here were robbed by a short person, prove that all short people aren't thieves.

    ...

The logic in your thief analogy is flawed. To complete your analogy so that it matches the current discussion you would need to add the following:

    1. According to nearly every single one of the thousand posts on the forum, every short person the posters have ever met stole from them. (Virtually everyone here says that every LG they've gotten has developed IR)
    2. There are many reported cases of people meeting many short people in a row and in every case every one of the short people stole from the person. (There are many reports here of people trying several LG screens in a row and getting IR on all of them)
    3. In all of the thousand posts about thieves, no one has heard of anything ever being stolen by a tall person. (No one has heard of a Samsung with IR)

When you add these stipulations it's easy to reason from points 1 and 2 that every short person is a thief. While you can never prove that 100%, logic and probability dictate that conclusion.

It's also easy to reason from point 3 that no tall person is a thief. Again, you can never prove that 100%, but logic and probability dictate that conclusion.

    Well said.

This is my first Apple computer, and honestly, unless this is fixed soon, it will likely be my last. I am so dissappointed with Apple. I wonder if this would have happened if Steve Jobs was still alive and running the company. Personally, I'm starting to feel like this issue represents the early begininings of the end for Apple. I really feel that no one in Cupertino, at least no one with any real power or influence, has anything close to Steve Job's attention to detail and his desire to constantly improve the user experience. It's sad, really.

What does "Edited By Host" mean in some of the posts?

Has everyone been calibrating their displays' color profile? Today I re-calibrated my display that I have noticed some IR with... It's not a fix, but the IR becomes less noticable than with the factory color profile.

If you can calibrate your profile, Apple may also do this to "improve" the IR issue through a "system update".

I am currently a first time mac user with the MBP retina that i ordered in the USA on august 18th. I got it on like the 27th.

So far it has been nothing short of a amazing laptop. It does have a LG display but has showed NO sign of IR YET. So i really love the macbook and hope that LG fixed their screen and i happened to get a good screen (my hopes are not up).

Anyway, it will be annoying if i get IR.

But been doing 60 minutes tests and dont get IR.

you just got it. Give it a few weeks and you'll start seeing it.  I didn't notice mines till like 3-4 week in on the machine.

It means the writer went back and edited the post. Maybe added something or took something out, could be fixing a spelling or grammatical error.

That's not what it means. The writer is not the "host". Apple is the host. They're censoring this thread. I know, because they've censored me. Re-read Dr. Sly's post with all of the "<Edited By Host>". He's making fun of their over-zelous censorship. You didn't think that this was a truly open forum did you?

Our discussion has nothing to do with whether no one has had a problem with Samsungs, an assertion, BTW that's not true, there has been complaints on this forum about issues, not neccessarily IR, but I think I saw some about yellow screens.  Anyways, suit yourself, customer is always right.  I hope you find a Samsung and I hope my LG doesn't screw up like everyone tells me it will.  So far so good.

Just got image retention today. It can be seen consistantly now on dark images. I got mine the first week it came out. And it is an LG.

Let me also remark on your point no. 3.  Just because the only thiefs you met are short, doesn't equate to all short people are thieves.  Point 2 just because you've had reports of 1 thousand thefts, and all were by short people and none by tall people, yet there are also 100,000 people, most who are short, again doesn't prove that all short people are thieves.

I do believe that was the original question?  ie, Apple prove, that all short people aren't thieves:)

Anyways, I'm sorry all, don't mean to post so much, I will just hope my computer is ok and if not will report the 1001th theft by a short person.  At that time, like most here, I will call for end of all short people. (LG's)
