Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I have just transferred all my data from time machine and I have noticed like some others, that the Samsung screen even looks better than the LG.  I just hoping for the best!!!  I don't have each to compare on hand, but at least to my eyes it looks better or may be that I am happy to have gotten a Samsung on such short turnaround.  Maybe LG should steal some of Samsungs patents it may help them.

FYI the Samsung screen I just got is in my opinion brighter than the LG I had before. Hard to compare as I don't have that one now, but I'm comfortable using this one a couple of notches lower than full brightness. The LG was always on full.

Just a shame Apple are sending out laptops with scratches, chips and the like, just to add to the screen issues!

@stecube you picked it up in store or online?

Curious to see what happens with you and Dr Sly's latest LG. Seems like were getting some good LG screens if thats possible.

Looks like I have a DCN 232 model:

    Color LCD

    LP154WT1-SJA1

    DCN232501D3DMJ0AU

Only just had the replacement installed on Saturday, but when discussing this with the AC rep over the phone 2 weeks ago I made a point of saying I'd be happy with an exchanged screen, if they could install the Samsung one straight off the bat.

Which they didn't do, of course - I can't say I'm all that surprised with this (I don't really see Apple going much out of its way to even acknowledge this, never mind actually fix it properly -- yet), so I'll just do the replacement swap lottery thing if this one develops problems.

Bit of a shame, they are great machines otherwise ...

    Cheers

Good point stecube, I notice the same! Maybe it is good news.

Of course there are orders that are not delivered yet, such as mine. I will report here my screen model when it comes. Also I think I should check the rMBP in the store for scratches because I see that there are a few out there :/

Is it too early for any conclusions, but it seems as if the newer LG screens, starting with serial number DCN232xxxxxxxx + are IR Free...

    Or wishfull thinking????

How can anyone talk to get replacement many times? I have no idea to win these guys in argument as they said it is in Apple specification.

I figure I would give it a shot so like golf1410. But as someone said I am sure it will not be until either after Wednesday or the release of the iPhone 5, if at all.

My LG screen is still going strong with no problems over a week in, as people are saying it seems as though the newer LG screens are very much improved.

    Info of mine from Terminal:

    Color LCD

    LP154WT1-SJA1

    DCN233400NADMJ0AT

    Week 35 build.

Day 4 with my newer (week 34) LG screen, still awesome. Definitely white-pink instead of heavy yellooooow... but I will try to calibrate it later.

I prefer white-bluish such as the rMBPs with Samsung displays (looks more like my Apple Cinema Display), but at least there is no image retention, which was the real problem.

So I got a refund on my previous rMBP (i.e., the one with the three different LG displays which all exhibited image retention). Apple Store employees gave me a bit of a hard time at first, but I pointed out that the delay between repairs, and the number of repairs, made it so that it's already been almost 3 months...

I'm going to report in every week from now on, i.e., less frequently. But I wish you all luck!

    Peace out.

    Dr Sly

My old DCN23020*** had still IR, but not as bad as my previous two.

Mind just under a month old, and I have been experaining very bad IR. In some cases its taken up to 10 mins for the IR to leave the screen. I have currently raised a case with Apple about this problem.

    Screen Details:

    Color LCD

    LP154WT1-SJA1

    DCN22960KERDMJ0AY

What is the normal proceedor for replacing faulty screens? Do they replace them instore?

    Thanks
