Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Is it too early for any conclusions, but it seems as if the newer LG screens, starting with serial number DCN232xxxxxxxx + are IR Free...

    Or wishfull thinking????

My old DCN23020*** had still IR, but not as bad as my previous two.

DCN23030**** also has IR...also not as bad.

If you're close to an Apple Store, take it there. If they don't have parts in stock, they'd order them and then repair yours.

Is this the first instance you noticed IR or has it been getting worse over time?

I sent my machine away last week after the ghosting / IR was getting worse by the day.

It was an LG and the serial was; DCN228xxxxxxxxxxx

It has since been replaced with another LG with the serial; DCN231xxxxxxxxxxx

which still has the same issue as before. Here I go all over again, hopefully this time it works as it should.

I've also noticed with the new display that the apple logo on the back of the screen has a pink / purple hue to it.

Is this an issue with all Retina displays, or just a few faulty LG displays?

Just a quick update.  I was blown away by the LG display (except for IR of course), but this Samsung display really has me amazed.

Well, I ordered a new rMBP because so many people here seem to be getting Samsungs. It came today and yet another LG. To me, it looks exactly the same as my previous three LGs except maybe a little dimmer. Sigh. I will test it out (I'm not even going to bother copying my data to it) but I'm not confident.

Got mine replaced at the Apple Store today. New one's an LG, but with a 233 serial number. So far no IR at all, and I've been really watching for it (set background to grey, did extensive work with a pages document open in one place for over an hour). I'll be keeping a very close eye on it for the next two weeks. Beautiful display, nice colors. Maybe LG got its act together... we'll see.

Did you get your entire rMBP replaced today or just the screen assembly?

LOL! I just got the exact same reply email. Can everybody say "automated response"? It may still yield some results, but I thought it was funny just the same.

My rMBP was serviced by Apple and the screen was replaced with another LG screen. I picked it up last Friday. There was no image retention when I first got it back, but am starting to notice image retention today, just 4 days after the replacement. The serial number of the replacement starts with DCN23270**. I suspect that in another couple of weeks this screen will be just as bad as the last one.

Well, it looks like Apple is going to have to swallow their pride and ask Samsung to make them more LCD panels to fix this issue.

"Oh hi Samsung! How's it going? Uh huh. Great. Well...uh...listen...uh...I know we recently sued you and were awarded $1 billion dollars, but do you think you could...uh...help us out with this little issue we're having? Uh huh. How many? Oh...uh...about 200,000 displays...to start. Hello? Ummm...are you laughing or crying? No...no...uh...you weren't on mute"

    Canuck1970,

Just the back LID under where the White Apple logo is.  That area tends to get warm when you use the machine.  My rMBP get's IR around the 1-2 min mark after regular usage. So I decided what the heck, blast my Air Conditioner at the back LID for a min and run the IR test at the same time.  NO IR after that.  Comes back once my rMBP LID heats up.

I am still thinking rather or not to get my screen replace since i am well over the 14 day period.

If I could be guaranteed a flawless Samsung retina display, I'd go for the repair...in a heartbeat
