Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

They were going to just replace the display, but when they said I'd be without my computer for 5-7 days I told them that simply wasn't possible. I'm self-employed; this Mac is my office. The guy completely understood, went into the back, came back out and gave me a new one.

I'm noticing that the display isn't as bright as my last one. Previously, I tended to keep it at about 1/2 brightness, now I have to keep it at full brightness for the same effect. This really is getting rediculous. Still, so far no IR.

Just got a new built to order today and by far this is worst screen I've gotten yet. Not only is this screen slightly dimmer than my previous LG rMBPs I can already see slight IR and I've only been using it for 5 hours. I apologize if I've doubted those that have said they've had IR on the first day right out of the box. This is the first one I've had where IR showed up in less than a week. Wow. Needless to say it's going back. BTW, I do see what people mean when they say these displays are a little yellow though I don't think it's too bad.

So much for newer ones being better:

    Color LCD

My brother bought a retina macbook a little less than a month ago and the graphics are amazing, but i only saw it for alittle and never noticed any IR problmes on it. So i have been doing a lot of research on the retina macbooks before i bite the bullet and spend $3000 on something that may be a hassle to get the right screen (Samsung). So this question has been bothering me. How exactly are you guys finding out that you have a LG screen and not a Samsung one? Please help me out because I want to get the computer before the 21st of this month so i can get the college savings, but i want to make sure i get the right one the first time.

    Thanks

    Kev

    LG:
    Quality Control? What's that?

    Apple:
LG! Shhhhhhh. If you just stay quiet and don't say anything, theyll lose interest and stop bothering us.

There's no way to tell which one you have (LG or Samsung) until after you buy it. It's luck of the draw. Good luck.

No, i first noticed it about a week or two after I bought it. However, it has been getting progressively worse or I am noticing it more.

I will ring Apple today and get it booked in.

My advice to everyone experiencing problems with the Macbook Retina's Display is don't give up and be presistant until you get the PERFECT display, after all we are not purchasing an entry level laptop. I was on my 6th return and today I got a display manufactured by Samsung! It has PERFECT color, brightness and clarity. Also has NO image retention (So don't let any "genius" tell you this is normal for this kind of display). This is what we all should be getting and NOTHING LESS!!!!

If you have the time and energy that is the right thing to do. In my case I got tired of the seemingly unending cycle of skipping work so FedEx delivers and then skipping work couple of days later for UPS pickup of the return. Lost 6 days in a matter of three weeks.

I hear you there. I handle it by having them delivered to my office and returning them at an Apple Store on my way home from work or on the weekend.

I just did an IR test and it looks like my LG monitor has the problem . School is about to start soon and I have apple care so I think I may just wait until break to replace it. At least that way I won't need to keep playing rMBP lottery on getting a good one, and maybe by then they'll have this sorted out. I should also note that I usually have a picture instead of just a plain color for the desktop so it's not very noticeable yet.

No, you need to start the machine, open Terminal.app and then use a string command for that. The only thing you can see from the serial is the build week of the entire machine.
