Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Sir, you are the one who needs to email Tim cook. We need people who can convey the situation logically, clearly and concisely.

PS to Mod: If only apple was paying as much attention to our PROBLEM as you are to our posts, maybe we'd all be much happier! LOL Maybe you(Mod) should work for apple at a customer service level! LMAO

Its kinda said that Apple now is just edited this forums.. I mean, we all paid 2000+ for these machines, and quite clear that there is no simple solution to this issue, so they decide just keep under the water. They you could probably buy everyone a new Macbook Pro and still not even a dent in there income.. specially with iPhone 5 coming..

I mean I love Apple, I have made my whole family switch to Apple, owned at least 4 macs, 3 iPhones, 2 iPads (of which on has IR 2), but this just not a nice way to treat your customers, who paid hard earned cash to buy a rMBP...

I feel the same way buddy.  I work in IT for my firm and was going to start ordering Apple stuff till all this mess is happening to me on a personal level.  Now I am warning everyone I know to triple think about ordering apple stuff.

Agreed 100%; I have had an iphone 1, 3gs, 4, 4s will be getting a 5, ipod touch, ipad 2 & 3... rMBP(obviously), appletv, ibook 12", 13" Macbook pro(unibody); 15" macbook pro(before uni); powerbook G4; G4 tower, G4 iMac, airport extreme, and a huge collection of keyboards, mice(& trackpads) cables, software etc etc... This is thousands and thousands of dollars invested into this company, who I really love and trust. I just dont know what to say about all of this... I dont believe Ive ever been left dissatisfied by apple until now, and it HAD to be the $2200 machine, not my $500 ipad or the wireless keyboard etc. I just want as good of a display as the next guy(you know, with a samsung lol) I too am an IT guy(and it seems mac IT guys are rare) and its just... too bad...

OK I think I have figured it out, apparently, they DO NOT want you posting anything like "Email (insert apple CEO here)" OR any references or links to other groups they cannot moderate that may actually be able to help us. I do not remember reading "dont post email addresses of our CEO" or "dont link to other support groups" when agreeing to the terms and conditions, anyone else?

This censorship is worrying. They're actually trying to stop people sharing advice in how to deal with this issue? I propose we take this conversation over to macrumors where they have no control.  There is already a thread there, of course.  Even though I'm getting a refund, I'm keen to see how this plays out in regards to whether I buy a different Mac, or make the switch to PC.

Agreed, please post a cleaver way to google the macrumors post so it doesnt get edited by posting a link.

Visit macrumors, click on Mac Hardware in the sidebar, choose the MacBook Pro forum, and look for the thread (named something like: "does anyone one here with LG not have IR?")

I expect this will be <edited by host.>

I have plenty of web hosting space, I'm half-tempted to just throw phpBB or vBulletin up for the cause.

Yeah, I wonder if the moderators realize that censorship doesn't really ever lead to less visibility. It hasn't worked in the mid--I'll stop now so I don't get censored.

I know its prob been asked, but my clever google query abilities failed me, has ANYONE started with an LG and had it replaced by a Samsung display? I fear that it may not be possible, due to many factors... like a diff cable connection, etc. Honestly I dont want my macbook having some 'genius's fingers in it, but if it is possible to have an LG replaced with a Sammy(even by lottery) at this point I would gladly take it.

I went by the Apple Store yesterday to check their displays.  I have held off buying a rMBP because of the discussion in this forum.  I have a friend I have known since before he became an Apple salesman... one of their best, I would add.   After checking three display machines and finding IR on all three with hardly any wait, he came over to ask what I was doing.  I explained and showed him the IR and his response was typical: "That's not right!" He said that it had never been pointed out to him before.  My friend then asked me to wait while he checked with the head technician to see if they had been getting returns.  He came back shaking his head yes, they had numerous returns.  His advice and the head technician's was to hold off on buying a machine if you can.  I don't think the word is being propagated to the salesmen and they never get involved in the returns and therefore aren't aware of the problem.   I got the impression that the company is now well aware of the problem and working on a fix.  I know this doesn't help the majority of you who are now out of the two week grace period, but thanks for airing your troubles with your machines on this discussion board so that others of us can be warned.
