Going OT here,,,
But can Apple replace it directly or should I go to to BestBuy?
This is really frustrating as the Apple Store is pretty far and I'd have to take the metro plus bus which easily takes up a 1 hour of commuting...
Not to mention I have a full semester of classes.
After the 14 days, they will only repair it?
If you bought it from Best Buy, then return it to Best Buy. IMO, Best Buy is always the best bet, unless you don't have one, or unless you need a BTO. You get 30 days, instead of 14, and they are a lot less likely to give you a hard time if you show them the image retention, because they're not in on all the ways in which Apple is trying to skirt around the issue. Take it home, give it 20 or so days, then return it for another. Keep going until you get one that you like. I would avoid the Apple store, unless you've no choice.
Again, Best Buy = 30 days. 45 days if you have their silver reward zone card. It should say on your receipt when you have to return by.
My Bestbuy store originally had no rMBPs, I was lucky enough that the employee told me that they were going to get a shipment in a few hours from my visit, so I waited and then was even luckier that only one had arrived and that it was reserved for me.
I think all the LG displays will take time to flush out of the warehouse of various stores, Apple will most likely have the "freshest" stock available.
Yup. When I was looking at getting one, they didn't have them. I think that they do now. Last time I was in the local BB, I checked just for fun, and they had six of them.
That's why I said get one, and then wait 20 days before getting another. It gives them a chance to catch up if you get one every 20 or 25 days. I just think that BB's return policy is way too good to pass up. Apple may have the freshest stock, but it's just anecdotal that it actually means anything. I've been following this thread since post #1, and there's been all sorts of posts with people saying that they think that there are finally more Samsungs coming into the supply chain, only to be followed by 20 posts with people saying that they just received LG screens. It all just seems like a crapshoot. Might as well give yourself as long as possible to try before exchanging for another. That's how I dealt with the screen issues on the new iPad. I went through a ton of those before hitting on one that didn't have screen flaws. Of course I ended up getting mine at Target, and that's not an option for Macbooks of any kind.
You are right on that, might as well consider it.
The only issue is that there's no way to tell if it's LG or Samsung out of the box...
I doubt any manager will have to patience to allow me to open each box infront of them and then discard it if it's LG and has the IR, eventually they will tell me to get a refund.
I don't know, I hate playing this game of roulette, I don't have that much time.
A part of me says live with it, as I know this issue will only proabably vanish with the future rMBPs. Or if I'm lucky to get the samsung display one.
