Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Glad to hear it.  Let us know how you get on next week.

In other news I have a small dent on the bottom of mine, everything else I have looked at appears perfect.  Apple have given me a partial refund and agreed to repair the bottom plate at my convenience.  I told them I didn't want to replace it with another unit and they were fine with it.  After the iPhone madness has died down I will be getting it sorted.

Good news. Seems like your journey is almost over.

I'm two hours away from Montreal but I really want memory and processor bump so I have no option but BTO.

Apple store in Braehead, Glasgow aren't going to replace my display, citing it as "expected behaviour" and pointing me to this article:- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5455?viewlocale=en_US

Entirely unacceptable for a computer that costs as much, especially considering that the problems are known, and trying to downplay them it this article. I haven't gone to collect my laptop back up yet, but I suspect I may get ill tempered!

Ask for a refund. That article, apart from the fact that it is complete BS, was posted long after you bought the machine.

If they won't refund, contact your credit card company/bank and they will deal with the defective product issue.

Well after seeing so many people disappointed on here about the IR in the display I decided I had an itch to spend money...so instead of APPLE getting my money on a new computer Samsung got some money from me on two SSD drives for each of my MacBooks and some memory modules as well. I gotta say...I've installed the first SSD and RAM inside my 13" MBP and it's like a whole new computer! It's so much faster than I anticipated it being.

Now...I can't wait to get the SSD and RAM inside my 17" which is where I do far more complex tasks on it as well.

Sorry Apple...you didn't get my money this go round

I salute those three employees, very honest and straighforward about the image retention issue, the acknowledgement of Samsung and LG panels not appealing to everyone the same way (a nice way to put it, sounds more appropriate than to say LG naysayers are delusional, for instance), and I look forward to a call next week.

Hope you get the call Dr Sly!

Now that my new rMBP is IR free, I am actually able to enjoy it again, and what a beauty. While installing Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.04 onto two separate dual-core w/ 4gb ram VMs at the same time I was quickly reminded why I went through all the trouble to acquire this machine. Oh and both VMs are running native rez at 2880 x 1800 . Can't even tell the VMs are running -- no lag on host os. No other machine compares, I looked...not with this form factor or high resolution display.

I hope all you guys get your perfect retina mbp...good ones do exist...and they will be worth it.

Thats great news man, and I don't think a majority of people here would care LG or Samsung if the QC was evenly distributed.  If you look at the stats, it seems like the LG based are more than likely to have issues.  So it's hard to blame people for feeling the way that they do. Certainly gives me hope for the next gen of Retina displays

Anyone with LG screen that has NOT turned bad after more than a month of usage? I guess they wouldn't be reading this forum if everything is ok...

My rMBP LG is a month old and I have had no problems. My screen has been calibrated with a spyder4pro and the colors and contrast are great. Maybe the only difference between the LG and Apple cinema is the LG has a minimal pink hue, I use photoshop everyday and final cut, all good so far.

I read these discussions every day and I must admit i feel like my rMBP is a time bomb.

My rMBP is from week 26 and quickly after my purchase this retention issue was here right on my screen ...

I was so sad ... I brought my unit the Apple Premium Reseller as requested by Apple Care (unfortunately no Apple Store near me in south France) ... and they have my retina since 3 weeks now !!!

The technician didn't knew anything about this probelm his idea was to change the main board ... OMG !

So after many discussions and show of this forum they ordered a screen and I'm still waiting to see if it will be again a LG screen or not !

Horrible situation this Russian Roulette game ...
