Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Hoping for the best, it´s my first MBR. The fifth digit is the letter F, just like yours. I will be getting mine on the 26th.

Pretty intresting to see if we both get the same screen.

    i´ll updated you on wednesday!

Ps. is your fifth digit of your serial number a letter or a number?

This was shown by others to be meaningless, at least with regard to what screen you are getting.

Bought my MBPr an immediately noticed the ghosting (very light), after some research came across this thread, ran the terminal command and did in fact have the LG screen. Went to Apple, Genius Bar was aware of this issue (apple too) and said they will replace the screen. Just got it back, ran the terminal command and sure enough now i have a samsung display

Anyone with IR hanging on to their model for a while? I had to because I've been away on business and simply can't be without the machine. So I had to wait to take it in. Meanwhile, the IR is getting worse by the day. It's so bad now that it doesn't need to be a flat gray background to see it...I'm seeing the ghosting on the aurora background image. If I turn the dock to auto-hide, I can see the white parts of the icons from the dock in the desktop background as well. This is pathetic. I'm still surprised Apple hasn't officially said anything yet here...They just let this thread grow and grow. A+ in customer service. Good job.

Anyway, I'm curious if anyone else has seen this as a problem that gets worse and worse and I wonder what will happen if left untreated.

I'm also afraid of getting it "fixed" because I beleive there's a good chance I'll get the same LG screen again...Putting me in this endless repair cycle and I'm concerned about how many times I'll be able to take it in before they say "no more" as others have heard. Why blow all my "repair chances" now? Should I wait until I know it'll be fixed when I take it in? Or should I just go for it?

    Awesome!
Where are you based (i.e. USA, Canada, Europe, etc)?
As I mentioned earlier, I took my rMBP in for a screen replacement yesterday and I received a flawless Samsung screen. I'm in Canada.

Before you take your rMBP in for a screen replacement, ask the repair shop (i.e. Apple Store, other authorized Apple dealer) to check in their system and see if there are 2 different part numbers for replacement screens (i.e. LG and Samsung) or just 1 part number (i.e. likely/hopefully Samsung only). If there's just 1 part number, then I think you may have a good chance of getting a Samsung display.

im in US. There is an Apple event created for this particular issue: they even made a software that they run to verify the issue. i think once they take in repair for this particular issue, they only replace it with a samsung display,

I suspect you're probably right, which is a good thing, but why didn't Apple just quietly start doing that a month or so ago? The ill-will on this forum and others would not have gotten to this point if they had handled it better.

    ATTENTION - PLEASE READ

DO NOT PLAY THE BUY/RETURN 14-DAY LOTTERY HOPING YOU'LL GET A SAMSUNG DISPLAY

It seems, and is almost confirmed, that apple only stocks and ships samsung displays ONLY for repair.

If you have this issue, visit an apple store or an authorized dealer presenting this issue: IMAGE RETENTION

They have an event created specifically for this. They will replace your display with a SAMSUNG one.

**IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE APPLE ASSOCIATE USES A SPECIFIC EVENT IN THEIR REPAIR CATALOG TO ORDER A REPLACEMENT SCREEN AS THEY ONLY HAVE ONE SERIAL # OPTION WHICH ELIMINATES LG SCREENS**

so please make sure both you and the apple associate confirms they are using a specified event in their repair catalog

i think they started doing this just recently, as clearly the problem has become very popular

Please can you tell me where did you get yours from and what is the model?

I have ordered mine on 17th of Sep.: 2.7GHz/512SSD/16GB, and just hoping to get it with Samsung display. I can see it was shipped out from Shanghai. With a price tag about £2700 I can only prayer that will get with the Samsung one not LG.
