Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

Hey admin, don't bother editing the image out, I've downloaded the image and am now posting this joke all over Facebook and will send it to Cnet and MacRumors.

    Peace out.

Thanks, though I expect this portion of the thread will be redacted very soon.

I appreciate the support. I'm taking it back tomorrow. I doubt I'll make a big deal out of this. Honestly, I just want to get on with my life. I hope I get a Samsung tomorrow. If not, I'll wait a week and return it. I'll just keep doing it until I get a computer that works. It is obvious by their response that this is now standard operating proceedure; they aren't going to replace or repair these anymore. So if you do let your 14 day window lapse, you're stuck.

I've been to two different Apple Stores and MicroCenter and I produce this on most of the display models without any special effort.

I really would like to get one but I will be waiting until atlease the next tech refresh.

I have a feeling that this IR issue will be around for a long time.  I have old MacBook Pros from 2007 and one of them has an AUO display, and it has the same kinda dull yellowish look that my 2012 MBA with a AUO has.  All my LG from different generations have weak blacks and washed out looks at most viewing angles. And my samsung displays are all perfect.  So do you really think this is going to be fixed from one week to another?

I still believe we will know more when the 13 inch comes out... if it's got IR, then you know it's an issue that is here to stay

15" sells in 10s of thousands. 13" would sell a couple of million in a few months. They will have it fixed by then since it could cause major PR problems.

I'm on the same page as you... but it looks like Apple is positioning themselves to say it's normal on some LCDs and that is within their spec.  The bottom line is that Apple does not buy screens from week to week.  They buy them in runs and for sure they are still using their first run for all the 15 inch rMBPs that are being shipped.  The 13 inch LCDs were already in production when the 15 inch started shipping if the rumors about release dates are correct... so there was no way that there was time to make an engineering change.  I don't mean to be negaitive, just being realistic based on what I know and can see.  It's nothing more than a lottery... get in or out.

If the 13 inch does not have IR... we know that they learned from this.  If it has it, then they are going to ignore it till the next gen of LCD

I just ordered the 16gb version, and if it has the LG screen, I am going to return it and forget about trying for another. Too much hasle for me. May try a MP or PC.

Too bad, because of Apple's attitude about this.
