Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Go watch the Apple promo video on the Apple Retina page and you can now see how insincere they are.  If they really put so much effort into making these products they would have noticed this defect.

So I got a more sympathetic person at the Genius Bar today...

I simply showed him the pictures I dad of the failed test among other things - and he said it was good enough for him.  He order a replacement #661-7171.  Samsung I hope??

Please do update us when you find out. Some of us have a theory that part #661-7171 is a Samsung-only part. S**t! I forgot to check my work order when I got to work today. I will do it tomorrow and let you know what screen part number is on it. I now have a Samsung screen.

No, you are right. I can confirm that. I checked my screen SN and it's a different SN than the earlier screen. I might try my luck again at the apple store, next week or so after all my exams, and try to see if they will replace me another screen. Hopefully a Samsung one.

I would encourage everyone to try to get the word out to other consumers about this "feature" since Apple isn't advertising it. Go to places like Amazon and write a review for the rMBP. It won't do much to solve our problems, but it's the right thing to do to warn the next guy.

"I can't explain why someone would buy something without doing some homework"

I wasnt aware there was a problem until after I had ordered, I looked at tons of reviews and not one of them from the leading websites had mentioned anything about image retention issues, when I did read about it after I thought it was an isolated few as there are always teething problems with 1st release products.

    same for me....

My CTO (2.6/16/512) should be built today. I called Apple, but they could/would not tell me which screen I will be given.

Is this still a lottery on week 39?

I checked my work order and they used part number #661-7171 which in my case was a Samsung screen.. I had an LG before the screen was replaced last week.. picked it up yesterday from Amsterdam Apple Store..
