Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    Hi,

here are some images of the lightleaks on my macbook pro with retina display with a new one-day-old samsung LCD

It doesn't look so bad in person, but it's there.

strangely the lightleak is worse on my 2011 macbook pro 13inch (see photos)

    In the interest of comparison,

could someone please provide photos of macbook pro with retina display without lightleaks?

And here is the strange one.... my few months old 2011 macbook pro 13inch

    Does this qualified as anomaly?

What I have got myself into? This is unacceptable for these expensive machines. Image Retention and then light leak.

However, you guys should be pretty happy with Samsung because we all LG are getting pain in the ***!

given that I have traded in two LG displays due to image retention, I am a little reluctant to return this Samsung one because of lightleak..

paying more than $3000, yet still choosing the lesser of the two evils.

Is that a solid black background you are using to display the light leakage? I would only return/replace it if it really bothers you under normal usage. If I were you I would exchange it immediately! I recently requested a refund on my Samsung display because of backlight bleeding, which was somewhat visible in any light condition. Once you are aware of a problem you will continuously become paranoid about it getting worse over time.

My build is the same config and only 15 builds away from yours.  I also noticed the same thing about people having already received the machines from our week - strange.  UPS have advised mine should arrive on Friday, I will update when I know more.

Yes it is a solid black background.

Mine is not very noticeable at this point (does this get worse though?)

Although when you are in a dimly lit room, the bleeding on the bottom right corner is clearly visible even when the brightness is at the range of 30%-50%

When I use the laptop in the office, it's fine (because the environment is bright)

But at home, the blacklight bleeding can be somewhat annoying - especially considering this is a very expensive laptop

The thing is that there is so much that can be wrong with the replacement machine/screen that it's super risky to replace it. I would keep it as it is and try replacing the screen in some months, when Apple hopefuly stabilizes the quality control and gets rid of all the problems bothering us. It also has some pros - you get a new top lid, free from scratches

In my experience, light bleed doesn't get worse over time. For everyone with a Samsung I would recommend living with smaller defects if possible at all to avoid falling into the much much deeper LG ***hole.
