Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

Surely if the image retention becomes so bad it will be repaired, as it will even fail Apples test pattern then it would clearly be a fault.

Apple has already moved the goal posts once (by changing knowledge base articles after consumers purchased the product), it could certain do so once again by "refining" its test.

You know what? I deeply thought about it and perhaps the Apple-Test is not such a bad thing after all.

Bare with me on this: all the test does now is buying Apple time to silently fix things. There's no good in repairing a display with another faulty one, right? So they tell you that TODAY your screen is within specs, but we all know in a COUPLE OF WEEKS it won't be anymore.

In the meantime they could have a.) Samsung displays for all or b.) incredibly IR free LGs.

It wouldn't be the fairest solution to the problem, but it could work out. Obviously it would be better if Apple admitted the problems one and for all, but I doubt they ever will.

The test allows them to SLOWLY replace units that have gotten to a point that is "not within spec" with Samsungs (hopefully) -- also my first unit would have failed Apple test but it took 1.5 - 2 months on my machine.

WHAT TEST?!@#@# The Apple store in Palo Alto California has no such test and has never heard of one. They send you back out the door with their broken machine.

I wish I was lucky enough to live in a better area.

Did you actually mean "incredibly IR free LGs" or "incredibly, IR free LGs"?

That's possible. I also think that being a "squeaky wheel" helps. I've been pretty...vocal, and they told me that Apple was making a "one time exception" in my case.

Received my 5th 2.3/16/256. LG again.

Build Year:- This unit was built in the second half of 2012.
Build Week- Week 12 (March) or week 39 (September)

    LP154WT1-SJA1

    DCN23430BK5DMJ0AU

Knew it was going to be an LG while booting up due to the yellowness.

Time to order #6 I guess. Sigh.

I have to be optimistic there is no way they cant replace a screen that has very bad image retention to the point you cant physically change webpages without 50 percent of the previous webpage being present. I just cant believe that, perhaps at some users current level of IR then fine but not when it gets extreme thats just opens the door for lawyers to step in at take over on customers behalf.

I got my screen replaced today with the part number 661-7171 ended to be Samsung panel. Will that be then the part number to refer to when asking for replacement.

I have to say that at the end seems that there is a consistent way of getting Samsung panels by asking for panel replacement rather than going for a brand new unit like many are trying to do, although is a question of choice.

My fisrt impresion about the Sammy is that lacks the vivid colors and withes that I had with LG, the angles are not as good as well, but it does not have -for the moment- any of the defects that some owners are having like dead/stuck pixels, light bleeding and so on...

At the end of the day I have a mixture of fellings... I feel that is not over yet, that I expect that a new issue will popup later... but time will tell. For the moment I will try to calibrate the colors and get acustom to the angles.

Are more of you with Sammys experiencing new problems?
