Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

So does that mean they'll just refuse to do a replacement on a brand new 3k dollar machine? Because I passed the incredibly ridiculously short 14-day period? Well, if they refuse to replace it, then I'm definitely never buying an Apple computer again, that's just ridiculous. I've specifically asked for a replacement, and they are refusing, just because a problem didn't happen within two weeks, but still less than a month? That's really not right. Sorry, but it's not.

Maybe in your eyes it's not. But that's how it's always been.

Either you get a repair after the 14 days or you keep it.

    That's policy.

If I were you, I'd call Apple again. And if the answer is still negative, I'd take it to the nearest apple store... That might help.

I've asked AppleCare, the Apple Online Store, AND took it to an Apple Store. All only offer repair, not replacement

You could ask for replacement instead of repair. I am the case that owning rMBP one month. They did offer me either replacement or return money via Apple Gift cards.

p.s. I brought my rMBP from Retail Apple Store.

    Then you got lucky.

It is Apple's company wide policy with the 14 day rule.

They're not going to let people use some "Oh, my friend got a replacement after a month so that means I can get it" excuse to let everyone replace their laptop after a month.

I've asked for replacement several times from all three places, and they specifically refused. "Sorry, I would really like to, I understand how you must feel, but I don't have any way of setting up replacement." I've talked to three different senior advisors.

Let's not act like policy is set in stone because it isn't.  For example, if Apple declares this a widespread issue they will certainly replace it after that "14 day policy".  Also, I had a 2009 unibody Macbook repaired once that I had for 6+ months and the screen still wasn't right after the repair so they simply gave me a brand new one.  It wasn't their policy to do so, that would have been another repair.  My advice is to keep bugging Apple, eventually you'll get someone that will help you out.

No, but the policy is there to be a guideline and they can resort to that policy and have the right to refuse your replacement. You are assuming that apple will declare this a widespread issue. You may be right but that hasn't happened yet so you are theory crafting. Again, your case is different from hoffman's. Your screen "still" wasn't right after a REPAIR. That is NOT his case. You cannot apply a solution of a case to another that is different.

Wrong.  Never once did I assume Apple would do so.  I simply stated the policy isn't set in stone....and it isn't as we both know.  Nice try though.

Btw, if you need examples of others having theirs replaced past your "14 day" policy window simply scroll back a few pages.

I'm sorry but "If" is an assumption. And you didn't "simply" state. You went on to write a paragraph to why you thought so. Nice try.

You made a point. I did get the replacement option for 3rd machine. Since my 2nd rMBP has IR issue after one month usage.

Don't get all butt hurt about it friend.  It's okay to admit you are wrong.  I would if I had assumed what you stated....but I didn't so there's that.

It's not that I have some principle crap that I am going off of. I am mainly concerned that when I get it back it won't be the same as when I gave it to them. For example, some people claim after repairs the computers are not as "tightly" built, creak, etc. I don't want that less than a month after purchase.

That's okay. End an argument with verbal attacks. Go on, what else do you have?
