I've been reading every post here because I bought a retina macbook pro with an lg display screen twelve days ago. It has not shown any burn in yet and I have left test images on for more than an hour on a dark grey background. My big problem with the machine is its pink color cast and relatively dim screen unless I move the up the brightness to maximum.
But now to the good part and hopefully answer we've all been looking for. I called Apple and told the support rep that I was going to return the computer tomorrow for cash refund unless he could promise me a samsung display rmbp. I also told him I could just return it 'with buyer's remorse' without a reason but that I really wanted this for my photography business. I also read the info from another poster about all new rmbp products from now on being made with only Samsung parts.
The lower level rep said that only a senior rep could handle this request. When the new senior rep came on the line I repeated my sorry tale and request for a new machine. This guy said he would know if all new machines were samsungs and never got that info. He offered me a difficult choice: take a repair job on my new machine where he would guarantee a samsung or take my chances on a brand new replacement which he couldn't guarantee would have my preferred screen or an LG.
I reluctantly let him contact my Apple store for a repair so it would be the right screen since I didn't want to play the lottery game over and over until a new Samsung machine arrived.
Now to the BIG NEWS!!! He contacted the Apple store for the repair job. The store person told him that I should get a brand new replacement because ALL NEW RETINA MACBOOK PROS WILL NOW HAVE SAMSUNG SCREENS. NO LG SCREENS FROM NOW FORWARD!!! Was I ever relieved! He took my info and will be calling me to set up my swap for a Samsung retina macbook pro fully loaded.
Good luck all.

Sweet! If that's true, then going forward everyone will be getting the rMBP laptops they paid for. I sure hope so. Now, what about everybody else who has been getting the shaft? Apple needs to make things right with these people. And, for Apple's own sake, they should do more than just give them waht they paid for. They should give all of us who have struggled with this issue credit towards Apple software ($100? $200? I dunno). I say Apple software (i.e. iWork, Aperture, Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro X, etc), because it's 100% theirs and they don't have to share the profits with outside developers. They would essentially be able to recoup a lot (maybe ALL) of the good will they've lost with this debacle and it wouldn't cost them a dime. Are you listening Apple? I'm ready to bury the hatchet if you are. It's your move.
