Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Was it "defective LG" or "LG" being discontinued? The former is not good as that's what I heard from Apple (sans LG part) for my first and second replacement. That is, I was just "unlucky" to get a defective unit.

No, he strongly implied that they had stopped using LG's on the production lines, and that all new models would be using Samsung displays.

In that case, it's actually good news. Looking forward to your result.

They refuse to replace my screen. Apparently I pass an un-failable test. Ha! I wish my class have tests like that. The guy said this is an expected behavior, the screen is so high resolution it's normal. And that the ghosting faded within the time period. I then opened google for 15 sec as he lectures me how to use screen saver more. Then I close safari, he and I could see the google logo. But he still say its normal. Use screen saver more. Apple why are you doing this to me? I didn't pay you with defective money why give me defective product? I'm student with many deadlines, I don't need this to add to my workload.

oops, the forum jpeg compressor lost all detail on the second image.... let's try zooming in. The light and the Dark Side.... Both images taken in manual mode, with exactly the same exposure, and unprocessed ( other than the crop)

now, for fun, I did process it, to better see what was hidding in the shadows:

As you can see, there is a good deal of color information on the ghost image.

That's good news.  Another reinforcement that we can't match this to week numbers, since we know others this week others (closer to the build number im expecting) have LG screens.  What build spec did you order?

Its a 2.6 Ghz, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, if you need any more information let me know. Being a mature student I paid using an Apple financing agreement so if I had to send it back it would have been akward.

I'm wondering if anybody has had any luck exchanging at Best Buy for a Samsung screen. I'm on day 14 of my 30 day return period. Am I better off just returning it and waiting for Samsung stock (assuming all new builds will b e Samsung) or trying to exchange?

    I have a week 36 LG

Model numbers beginning with "LP" indicate an LG display while model number beginning with "LSN" correspond to Samsung displays.

My CTO (2.6/6/512) has been sent yesterday. It should be here around Oct. 7th, hope it's Samasung...

I put an order on a few rMBP as student period ends on Oct. 1st, and have 30 days to pay, so I should have a few try to get a Samsung. I will order them 2 by 2, with a 1 day shift...
