Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    Hi man

Just contact Apple support, you can reach them at 1 800-692-7753

Call them and they will take care of it. Tell them that you are in middle east and can't reach any Apple store in North America.

Good Luck and keep us updated.....

Just to give everyone an update. I took my rMBP (2.3 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD) to the Genius Bar today. The rep ran the IR test and after careful examination said there was image retention so he would replace the screen. I, myself, could not see the screen well enough to see if there was in fact IR; I was viewing it from about a 150-degree angle and there was often a glare from the ceiling lights.

I did encode some HD video on the way to the Apple Store--for about 15-minutes prior to my appointment--to get the computer at least a bit warm. I also made sure the brightness was turned up (just a few notches below max) and made sure that the screen did not sleep during the test.

The Genius rep did note that I had been in communication with Executive Relations, which is true. I'm not sure if that impacted his diagnosis or not; however, I'm not going to complain.

They didn't have any LCD panels in stock so he offered to order one and I could drop the computer off when it arrived. I explained that I would leave the system with him then because I'm not going to be needing it for the next week (that seemed to surprise him, but there was no difficulty in leaving it).

I asked him if I would be getting an LG or Samsung display. He said he didn't know, adding that they simply have one part number and whatever arrives, arrives. In fact, he continued, he stated they had no way of knowing until they hooked the panel up and turned on the computer.

When I reviewed the work order I checked the part number he had put on it and it was indeed 661-7171. So, when I get the system back I'll give you an update for how things went. Probably won't be for a week though. I am assuming I'll get a Samsung display based on other reports for that part number from users here. I'll be sure to include these types of details in my update.

Man same thing here. I will replac me retina's screen on Tuesday, part number 661-7171.

I have no idea what does this number mean. Honestly I think it is just a unified number by Apple that is associated with LCD Retina screens. So we can't tell LG or Samsung.

I assure you that part number is a Samsung panel. My diagnosis report document lists the same number and when I inputted the command into terminal, sure enough it was a Samsung screen.

    Oh Canuck!!

Well, I gave the ER a proposition:

    1. Give me a replacment rMBP (Which I right now have, again ridden with IR)

    2. Give me a classic MBP with the same price (8G RAM, 2.6GHz, 750HD)

    He agreed to both

What I didn't ask for was the same specs ( 256 SSD)

Do you think it would be wise to consider this option (2) with a SSD taking into consideration the fact that I won't be paying for either!!! So it would be complimentary (If he agrees for the SSD) !!!

Things I might miss : RETINA, Slim Profile (Am Crazy abt), New Fan, ventilation system, Redesigned Speakers.

BTW I'm from INDIA, We don't have an APPLE store over  here. RESELLERS are the only choice.

Another question I keep ponderin on is:

Would the REPLACMENT (NEW) LAPTOP (I now OWN with IR) which was shipped from SINGAPORE come with a 14 day tag?

    @RoverTX

The ER was ok with me goin for a downgrade.

I'm a RESEARCH SCHOLAR, so the whole debacle of sending my laptop every time was getting on my nerves and affectin my research. Was honest with him and he agreed to do a downgrade but I never asked him for a SSD. I never want a mac with the Magnetic Drive (Cause its SLOW)...SSDs are the best and I just love the engineering of this rMBP except for the outsourced product (SCREEN).

Hope they fix this up pretty soon or I might have to settle for the CLASSIC MBP engineering.

I just keep backing up research data which is a big hassle IMO.

What do you think about the downgrade (WISE decision or not) ? Can I have your opinion on this, considering the supposed fact that he agrees for a SSD.

    Thanks RoverTX

i see, but the point is that there is a great chance that the panels are coming in batches, next week can be 70/30 LG Samsung again. We dont know. The person that writes this in his blog is speaking truth, i am sure of that but it doesnt mean that the news is true from apples side. could be that the apple guy checked nd inly saw samsung panels or that he just spread a rumor or said something to get off the phone. nothing is sure until its official. they also claimed that there would be a fix many weeks ago,.

so i would hope too much but only gather statistics.

can people please remember to post config and build week everytime they post a news about a repair/replacemen or asquisition?

this is the bet way to monitor it all. not through rumors.

I fail to understand why you wouldn't tell them why you're returning the junk and why not add that this is a disgrace for apple to be selling garbage like this for this kind of money.

Is it or is it not a 14 days not questions asked?

There's a big difference between "parts" and what is coming off the production run.
