Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Yes they won't cut the biggest supplier for some faulty screens. Specially if it makes the end up with one supplier Samsung! Not a good move to be stuck with one supplier. Samsung can do anything it wants with Apple.

But they should and I'm sure they did some quality check on LG screens. It might take some serious time for LG to solve the problem and for us it takes time to see the differences but they are definitely going to solve it.

I hope that did never happen though.

So how many people out there happy with their LG screens? and how long have you had your computer?

Just recieved (today 8/3) a 2.3/16/256 with an LG screen that appears to be working fine. I did decide to upgrade to the 2.6 processor and have that computer on order. I'll be replacing this one regardless but honestly the LG screen looks perfectly awesome to me...

I had a week 30 with an LG screen and IR. Got a replacement a couple days ago with a samsung. Definitely better contrast than the last, and no IR yet.

I just recieved mine this morning. Lucked out and got a Samsung display LSN154YL01001. I've been testing it all afternoon and it looks like no IR issues.

Finally.  Thank you Apple.  Had a 30 day old base macbook pro with retina.  Started suffering severe burn in after about 3 weeks of use.  After working with support and the local Apple store manager they gave me a brand new machine.  They did not have any base models like mine so they upgraded me for free to the next model up which was $600 more.  After being extremely frustrated with the initial run around I was getting, they owned up to the issues and hooked me up.  And luckily for me it has the Samsung display.  Good luck to everyone else out there having issues.  I personally suggest that if you have the LG Display and see no burn it to still take it back.  My issues did not show up for 3 weeks and it made the exchange process a huge mess as I was outside of the 14 day return window.  If they had not replaced mine I would have been looking at a 7 to 14 day repair per the Apple Tech at the Store.

I have a week 29 MacBook with LG screen. It was having image retention issues, so I called and Apple said they'd replace it. They gave me a shipping label to send it back, and said they'd start building me a new one once they recieved the defective unit. I have a 10-day window coming up between school semesters, so I called back later and asked if I could wait two weeks to send it back, so the time I would be without a computer would be the time I didn't have any classes. They said that was fine, because once they agree to replace a product and give you the shipping label, you have 30 days to get the product back to them. So that was good news.

A few days later (today) I got notification that they shipped me the replacement MacBook. I have not shipped the defective one back yet. Confused, I checked the order status, and it shows both MacBooks under my original order, but the invoice only has me paying for the first one I ordered. So it appears that they messed up and shipped me a new one without charging me or getting the defective one back. Has this happened to anyone else? Are they just waiting for the 30-day window to go by before charging me again (if the defective one isn't returned)? Might I be able to keep both while only being charged once?

theyre assuming you will return the defective laptop after receiving the replacement. If I were you, I'd definitely ship back the old one...no sense getting charged twice for a faulty screen.

But they told me multiple times that they wouldn't even begin to build the new MacBook until they received the defective one and ran it through tests to make sure it was defective. Businesses usually don't just assume someone will return a $3000 product.

They will trust you for 30 days, if they do not receive your defective product within that 30 days they WILL charge you for two computers. So technically if you don't return it, you've bought yourself two laptops.

You got to return your product, for me they said they will send me the replacement and once it arrives just send the defective one back. I think its same for you, Apple wont give you one computer for free even if it is defective period.

Sorry to hear that Sojha. You should have called like I told you to, and if you had gotten an LG screen just order another immediately.

I guess you have to tell them you have something wrong with your screen and just ask for a replacement.

Or return it and get a refund and order another.

Oh sorry to here that, I also got an LG and now I do have IR, so apple set up a replacement for me and I also thought of ordering another one in mid next week so if the one I get as a eplacement has a LG screen I m thinking of returning that too. So I can have a continus supply of MBPr until I get a flawless samsung one.
