Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    How do you know if it's a Samsung screen on the Rena Display?

    Go to Terminal, type this command and press enter:

    ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

    Check the result. LSNxxxxx means Samsung while LPxxxx means LG.

    LSN=Samsung

    LP=Philips

    Philips has a big share in LG, LP in the terminal stands for LG/Philips

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_Philips_Display

    "

    LG.Philips Displays was a joint venture created by the LG Group of South Korea and Philips Electronics of the Netherlands. It primarily manufactured CRTs used in traditional television sets.

    These two companies also operate another joint venture, LG.Philips LCD, which focuses on LCD panels used in flat panel television sets and laptop computers.

    As of 2006, the company had run into bankruptcy and restarted under the same name with investements of a third party (JP Morgan). LG.Philips LCD was not affected by this bankruptcy.

    LG.Philips Displays shares were sold in the beginning of March 2007. The company name has been changed to LP Displays from 1 April 2007. LP is a historic reference to the old parent companies LG and Philips."

    Correction on my earlier post. It seems since 2009 that Philips has sold all his shares in LP Display.

    The "Terminal" is in: Applications > Utilities

    Launch it, copy & paste that command into it (at the prompt), and hit RETURN.

    Or...

    Do what "Dark Ayla" said.

    Hi, I did this and Terminal didn't give me any return info. It just gets back to the command line

    Here is what it says in the command line after I open terminal and after I enter the whole string and hit enter:

    Atahualpas-MacBook-Pro:~ evelincollado$

    I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1 could this be the reason?

    Thanks.

    No problems. I'm just not willing to take the risk of IR showing up in the future. It will be my problem instead of apple's problem.

    You did the right thing. Stay within 14 days or they'll try to weasle their way out of fixing their defective product.

    No, you must have done something wrong. I have Mountain Lion and the command works fine.

    Did you copy and paste this...

    ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

    ...exactly?

    Like any service provider the back and forth with the customer is 2 way.   Getting testy, saying too much or making up stuff to get a repair doesn't work.   If you describe your situation cleanly, say how it effects your ability to use the computer shouldn't be a issue.

    Where this breaks down and gets people upset, is where you have someone repeatively order a laptop, only to return because it has a problem several times.   I can't think of any real life situation where the product would be pursued that desperately.  There are some instances mentioned here in this thread, but after a couple of failed experiences I would walk away.
