Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

Thanks. Just a suggestion: You might want to include a README file that explains how to run the app on Lion or ML with the new security measures. I recommend not disabling the security, but right clicking and selecting Open. That way it's only going to be circumvented once and not affect security. It's also easier.

Oh, I didn't know you could circumvent the security measures just by right-clicking it and then selecting Open. I've just disabled the whole option myself because I thought it was pretty silly. However, as you said, some people may not know about it or may not want to turn it off, and as such I will include a description.

So I should tell the users to right-click it and then open it, and not to tell the user to turn off the security measures in System Preferences?

By the way, what error message does it return if one tries to open it with the security measures enabled?

This is the error if I run it normally:

    error.jpg

But if I right click (Ctrl-Click) and select Open, I get this:

    error_2.jpg

Which allows me to proceed. It's easier for the average user too as they won't have to go to Preferences.

Even if I order online, what guarantee do I have that I will get a Samsung?

So far all production week #40 (going by appleserialnumberinfo.com) machines have been Samsung displays.  The week before two individuals at Apple had told customers who then reported to this thread that they were no longer using "bad" displays for production for the retina MacBook Pros.  You need to order a build to order and not an "in stock" model from the online Apple store in order to make sure you get the current production week.

Use a black background to check for backlight bleeding.  An app called PiXel Check is helpful since it will display a full screen black background as well as other colors to help you to look for dead pixels.  You should look around the screen edges/corners for obvious signs of backlighting with the black background.

For image persistence/retention heat makes a difference.  Try the Solid Gray Dark background color for your desktop in the System Preferences.  After you have a web page up for a few minutes close it and check if you can still see anything from the web page on the gray background.  How easy it is to reproduce depends on the state of your LG display and how warm the display is.  Most LG displays get worse over time.  So if you can detect any to begin with it most likely will get worse with more use.  The LG display on my first rMBP showed no signs of image retention even when doing everything possible to make it happen.  After 10 days of use I started to notice it without checking for it.  3 days later it was much worse and obvious.

If you do not see any image retention you can try doing more CPU intensive activities to warm the computer up.  Closing the display most of the way for a few minutes then hiding the Dock to see if the Calendar app icon is still visible is also a good way since the bottom of the screen will tend to be warmer.

In addition, another problem I see is the yellowish tint on the right half of my screen, opposed to true white on my left half. I can't believe I gotta go through this mess AGAIN. Currently I am on a roll, 8 replacements, 2 repairs, and who knows when I'll get a perfect Samsung that doesn't have issues. As of now I'm packing up this machine and going to play the waiting game... again.

Unable to locate Pixel Check in the App Store. They have two other apps however they are not Retna Display compatable and they grey screen apparantly remains permanently unless you reboot. I understand special order is one way to get a current build with a Samsung display. However I do not require any upgrades so this wont work for me. Any suggestions as to where I can find Pixel Check?
