Q: MacBook Pro Retina display burn-in?

I first noticed this after my MBP [Retina] had gone to sleep, but: when returning to the login screen (since I have it set to require a password whenever the computer is idle long enough) I noticed what appeared to a very faint ghosting primarily noticeable on darker backgrounds.

After messing around with it a bit, there seems to be a fairly consistent in-display ghosting that occurs without much time at all; I was able to leave my screen on (a little above half-brightness) for about 10-15 minutes and the ghosted "burn" would be of the screen I left it on (which I deliberately reconfigured so that everything would be a new position).

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a normal thing that I just have to get used to? It's not really noticeable at all in standard use.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I did some burn in test. I can see a burn in after few min. However its not that severe as I have seen on some youtube videos. I will do some more tests after I increase the temperature of the laptop.

I will let you know about the results.

My IR problem got noticeably worse over time. If you're within the 14-day NQA return window, I'd return it.

Follow this advice. For 14-days you are the king. After that all you have left is Apple's mercy which can vary widely from case to case.

Should I purchase MBP retina now? Is it week 40 now?

You should just buy one of Dainbridge's rMBP laptops.

He has two and they're both Samsung.

I have decided to upgrade to

    2.6/16/512

Not sure he has this one.

    Hello,

I just wanted to let you guys know, Ive purchased mine on 13th September which is just over 20 days from today and I got LG display . I would suggest anyone purchasing a new one to just hang on for little longer to just be safe and avoid all the hassle all of us in this thread are going through. I know how exciting it will be whilst purchasing this product but trust me once you come to know it is LG it will be a pain to run around Apple stores to get it repaired or replaced.

    Cheers

I use my laptop for work everyday and I still havent given mine in for repair yet because they said it will take 4-5 days for it to replace the display, which is quite a long time, So I am planning to wait for a week or 2 to give it in.

I understand what you are going through. I suggest to get a refund and buy a new one like I did. It seem to be that there is no way Apple can get rid of all LG without breaking contract. So, no way to get Samsung without playing lottery. Once, you have 14 days period back to your aid, you are the king! Multiple returns and refunds would send a direct message back to the Apple top executive managers that they have to do something about this. They are loosing money.

FYI - I went into the Apple Store today.

I was offered a repair (not great for a new product), but was assured that the screen replacement would be a Samsung model.

I think your laptop was within 14 day return so you managed to get a refund. Mine is 21 days old now

Oh I'm being honest here From my personal experience at the end of the day it all depends on the person whom I speak with on phone. If he is really understanding he will offer a good suggestion. Else if has attitude like 90% of them do you know what happens they said they sold 4 million and offer repairs :P

So it is pure luck. I can give another try by calling Apple Care UK again and ask for a replacement but I have no hopes of positive reply :(
